Bright-and-bustling Tokyo is a common destination and layover point for businessmen and Asian culture buffs, leaving Seattle for the other side of the Pacific. Start your journey by taking Interstates 405 or 5 to Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA). After a ten hour flight, you will land in Tokyo and be free to go shopping in Shinjuku, walk the sea life tunnel at Shinagawa Aquarium, or catch a sumo match at Ryogoku Kokugikan.
Tokyo has an extensive subway, train and bus system that will take you everywhere from Tokyo Tower to Meiji Shrine. Tokyo boasts two Disney parks, Disneyland and DisneySea, and Nikko Edomura, a theme park based on feudal Japan. Springtime vacationers can feast, shop and enjoy the street shows at Myojinshita Park's Fussa Cherry Blossom Festival. If you have a few hours to spare, ride the Shinkansen, Japan's famous bullet train, to explore nearby Nagoya or Kyoto.
Flights from SEA bound for Tokyo will land in either Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) on the western shore of Tokyo Bay or Narita International Airport (NRT), a landlocked airport to the east of the city. Tokyo is prone to hot, humid and rainy summers but mild winters with occasional snowfall. Travelers looking to take in Tokyo's spectacular cherry blossom display should aim for an early April visit.
