When coming to the airport via the Long Island Railroad or New York City’s subway, hop aboard the AirTrain to get to your terminal. You can also catch a ride on a taxi or bus.
The flight from John F. Kennedy International (JFK) Airport to Chennai International Airport (MAA) Airport is a little over 17 hours. Once you arrive, you can grab a taxi or an auto-rickshaw, jump on a bus or even catch the train at the Tirusulam Railway Station. Expect it to take between 20 to 30 minutes to get to the city.
Once in Chennai, take time to visit the Kapaleeshwar Temple, one of the oldest in the area. You can purchase souvenirs at the temple’s surrounding street market. Don’t forget to check out Crocodile Bank, which is filled with crocodiles lounging along the edges of the water.
Elsewhere, Marina and Edward Elliot’s beaches offer sun and sand, and the Government Museum offers visitors a history lesson in Chennai culture and its people.
Visitors to Chennai will find the accommodations more affordable than those of India’s more popular tourist destinations, Delhi and Mumbai, and there are charming bed and breakfasts in the city, as well.
