Upon arrival in Sydney, travelers can head west for 70 miles along the Great Western Highway to ride the Scenic Railway through the Blue Mountains. The small towns and wineries in Hunter Valley are 152 miles northeast along the Pacific Motorway and the Hunter Expressway.

Attractions

The Royal Botanic Gardens near Sydney Harbour Bridge can be reached by taking the M1 Highway. Themed gardens here include the Palace Rose Garden and the Herb Garden. The Art Gallery of NSW is less than half a mile away, and is home to a collection of Aboriginal art.

Driving seven miles north along the M1Highway is one way to get to Sydney from Sydney Airport (SYD). Passengers who want to visit the historic area known as The Rocks can take a train from the airport. Dawes Point Park here was the site of the city's first fortification in 1788.
