Couldn't stay in this flat we rented, so difficult to review.
My family rented this flat for the location and amenities as I was racing Ironman Zurich while we were in town. When we arrived in Zurich, the property owner told us that the previous person renting the flat was in an accident and that we could not get in since their belongings were still in the flat. He also only communicated with us via text message and not through the VRBO app, which we thought odd. We were directed to another flat (belonging to a friend of the owner) in a different location in the city. The alternate flat (the one we did not rent) had loud renovation construction going on outside during the day, it wasn't as large as the flat we rented and it didn't have a bedroom or proper kitchen, making it difficult for our family (with two small children) and my preparation for a challenging race. In all fairness, it was in a neat location but just not well suited to our needs.
We were told the owner was out of town on holiday, and his friend is the only person we spoke with about the situation. We never have spoken to the owner. We also weren't given any resolution or price adjustment for our inconveniences. We made it work, but it was frustrating and disappointing. We travel quite a bit and own vacation rentals ourselves, and I can say that we would have handled this all very differently.
So, I can't really review the this flat because we never saw it. I can, however, review the way this was all handled and that was not very well done. Perhaps the owner was in tough situation that he couldn't control, but he was able to control his response with us and we felt that it was unprofessional. I'm still not sure exactly what all was going on, but we left with a strange feeling about it all. Zurich, however, was fabulous!
