Summary:
High above Yucca Valley, on 112 acres of private hills, Hawkeye Dome is the geodesic house that made the cover of Dwell. Its oversized windows follow the Mojave from first light to full dark, and the whole place runs quietly on its own sun and well water. Swim laps past the underwater windows of the 40-foot pool, wander the trails that cross the property, then trade the hot tub for the see-through cabin when the stars come out. And yes, it was originally built by nudist physicists.
The Space:
Hawkeye Dome is a geodesic home high above Yucca Valley, set against 112 acres of private hills and featured on the cover of Dwell magazine. Oversized windows frame the Mojave from early dawn to starry night, while concrete floors, a spiral staircase and designer furnishings soften the dome's crisp geometry. The house runs off-grid on an 11 kW solar array with battery backup, a 400-ft well and propane backup, with all the comforts of home. Two queen bedrooms and one bathroom, reached by the spiral staircase, suit couples and small groups who want architecture, open land and big views. Bring a good book and let the geometry do the talking.

-Outdoor Amenities-
Swim laps in the 40-ft pool and look through its underwater viewing windows, then settle into the hot tub as quiet falls over 112 acres. Miles of rustic trails and an observation deck give front-row seats to every sunset and starry sky. The see-through cabin is an observation deck and stargazing spot, not an extra bedroom. A BBQ and midcentury fire pit extend living outdoors into the evening.
Due to county regulations, the pool area is fenced. Two low-profile safety fences have been installed near the pool, so the views may look slightly different from some older listing photos. The pool remains fully accessible and usable.
-Living Area-
Inside, the dome's geometry is the star: oversized windows, concrete floors, a spiral staircase and designer furnishings that keep the space warm and livable. Watch the light change across the Mojave from inside, or step out to the observation deck. Everything runs on the home's own solar, well and propane systems.
-Kitchen and Dining-
The kitchen has what you need to cook at home, and the BBQ makes it easy to take dinner outside and eat with the hills in view. Old Town Yucca Valley's cafés are there for mornings when you would rather go out.
-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-
Hawkeye Dome has two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, and one bathroom. The home has a spiral staircase, so guests will need to climb stairs.
-Surrounding Area-
Hawkeye Dome is in the Town of Yucca Valley, whose Old Town is full of cafés, galleries, antiques and coffee shops. Joshua Tree National Park and Pioneertown bring hiking, climbing and live music. Guest Access:
The entire house and property are yours to enjoy! Please note that a few supply closets stay locked to store rental supplies.
As a rule of thumb, feel free to roam anywhere you don't see fences, homes or clearly private spots. For the best views and easiest trails, head south up the hill or west, where you'll find the most scenic hiking. Along the way, you might cross paths with fellow explorers or friendly neighbors.
