Long Weekend Getaway to the Mountains / Late Sept 2019

Bottom Line Up Front … We thoroughly enjoyed our quiet “weekend getaway to the mountains” at Riverside Cabin, near Front Royal. Our rustic cabin was just as advertised, and had all the necessities (and more); all we added was ourselves, some comfortable camp clothes, and some food and drinks for our pup and us. We really had a great getaway, and this in large part because of the cabin itself which was where we spent a great deal of our time, it’s very quiet wooded setting with nobody in sight, and being in the midst of the pretty mountain area lying next to the peaceful Shenandoah River. The rest of the story… We found the cabin exactly as described in the advertisement and in my calls and texts to the property manager John. There were also many books and games in addition to the entertainment system. We had great Sprint and AT&T service on our phones with email via cell as well. Not mentioned was the rock fire-ring for campfires and a wooden picnic close to the cabin. There was plenty of split firewood under a tarp by the cabin, and lots of deadfall in the woods for kindling to use with the newspapers and lighters we brought to start fires with. We had a campfire each night except the one day/night it rained, then we had a smaller one in the cabin’s fireplace. We roasted marshmallows and had a “smores-gasbord” with different chocolates and peanut putter candies at the campfire. The AC was great and kept the temps very comfortable during both the warm days and the nice cool nights outside, and we loved the ceiling fans all over the cabin. We did take short hikes through the woods with our small pup down both paths to the river. It is a little steep and challenging for some. We were there in late September, and the trees were still full and green so the view of the river was restricted to a couple places from the cabin and the yard. In the late fall and winter, when the leaves are down, the view of the river and ridgelines are likely great. I don’t have anything negative at all to say about the cabin, or in John’s support of us there. When an appliance had an issue, I sent a text that morning and almost immediately we got a call and the fix was arranged. That is good service. We had a great time and would love to do it again a bit later in the season to have a full color in the trees, or well into winter when it is likely to have snow on the ground. In any season, this, or any of these 3 cabins would be a wonderful.

          Great place

Renting was easy, property access was slightly confusing at night but a careful read of the instructions got us to the right spot. Cabin was clean and offered essential cooking items that were in good shape. The outdoor fire pit was the perfect hangout spot for early October weather and communication with the property manager was top notch.

            Lovely isolated log cabin

We drive there right after our wedding. Exactly what we were looking for. Firepit outside. The river right in front. Sweet old cabin. Great getaway spot. We will be there again. No internet and wifi and phone signal. Unbeatable experience.

              Perfect Weekend Getaway

Had a wonderful time at Riverview. Cabin had all the basic amenities you could need, but its an easy drive to town if you forget anything. Had trouble with the DVD player so we didn't watch any of the movies we brought, but the satellite TV worked just fine. John checked in on us both days, to make sure everything was okay. Would definitely rent here again.
