Host & Stay | The Spirit
Summary:
Step into The Spirit, a charming two-bedroom retreat in the heart of Whitby. Rich in character with antique furnishings, exposed beams, and floral touches, it’s a cosy escape for up to four guests. Relax in style after exploring cobbled streets, the harbour, Whitby Abbey, and 199 Steps - all just a short stroll away. A perfect blend of heritage, comfort, and seaside charm.
The Space:
There are many reasons to come away to Whitby, but why Whitby? Chances are the unique character and heritage of the town has a lot to do with it! The owners of The Spirit set out to take that a step further, to offer you the chance to experience the atmosphere of a stay in Whitby ’s past whilst avoiding the pitfalls.
The property is thought to date back to at least the mid 1600s and maybe earlier (investigations are ongoing) so you’ll find décor and a mixture of antique and reproduction furniture from those times but don’t worry, there’s hot and cold running water, TV, and modern cooking facilities! Much of the early structure remains exposed and you’ll also find old church pews re-used in the walls; the home was previously known as Faith Cottage and there could be an ecclesiastical or fishing connection.
Accommodation comprises a dining area and kitchen on the ground floor, a bedroom with two single beds on the first floor together with a living room with sofa. The top floor offers a master bedroom with king size bed, plus modern bathroom with power shower.
Previous visitors have said a stay at The Spirit offers something truly magical, something they’ll want to remember. Rather than a staying in modern but ultimately clinical apartment, why not experience The Spirit of Whitby?
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the full property.
Access to The Spirit is via a key safe box. Further details will be provided prior to check-in.
Pay & display parking is available a short distance away from The Spirit.
The Spirit has a strict no dog policy.
The Neighborhood:
Nestled on the dramatic North Yorkshire coastline, Whitby is a charming seaside town steeped in history, natural beauty, and coastal character. Famous for its iconic Abbey ruins, winding cobbled streets, and connections to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Whitby offers a perfect mix of relaxation and adventure.
Guests can wander along the picturesque harbour, explore quirky independent shops, and sample freshly caught seafood from award-winning restaurants. The Blue Flag beach and cliff-top walks provide stunning sea views, while the nearby North York Moors National Park offers miles of heather-clad hills and scenic trails for walkers and cyclists.
Whitby is also home to a lively calendar of events - from the Whitby Regatta to the Goth Weekends - giving the town its unique year-round appeal. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful coastal retreat, a family seaside getaway, or a base for exploring Yorkshire’s rugged landscapes, Whitby’s blend of history, charm, and coastal beauty makes it a destination that keeps guests returning time and again.
Getting Around:
Whitby Train Station is a short 5-10 minute walk away from The Spirit where direct services can be found operating to Billingham, Blaydon, Hartlepool, Hexham, Middlesbrough, Newcastle upon Tyne, Seaham, Stockton-on-Tees, Sunderland, and Thornaby-on-Tees.
he North Yorkshire Moors Railway also operates from Whitby Train Station. Hop on board to visit the market town of Pickering along with the pretty rural villages of Goathland, Grosmont and Levisham.
A number of bus routes operate in Whitby offering access to Guisborough, Leeds, Loftus, Middlesbrough, Scarborough and York.
