Duck Down Cottage

Duck Down Cottage is a cosy one-bedroom hideaway, providing guests with a unique and relaxing stay by the coast, perfect for a couple’s seaside getaway. Steeped in history, it was originally built in 1690, reportedly from stone from a demolished castle and is nestled in the heart of Whitby.

The cottage boasts a comfortable living area, ideal for snuggling up by the fire and catching a movie on the flat screen TV. Its location is perfectly placed for accessing an array of eatery options within the town of Whitby, although if you fancy a night in, the kitchen is fully equipped to whip up a dinner for two: oven, stove top, fridge, kettle, toaster and coffee maker. A stunning double bed is tucked off the lounge separated by an impressive solid wood sliding door. The cottage has ample charm, but with modern amenities such as walk in shower and heated towel rail in the bathroom.

Duck Down Cottage is conveniently, centrally located and only a 10 minute walk away from the train station, making accessing the villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast super easy. If you wish to visit cultural and historic landmarks when in Whitby, as well as it’s gorgeous beaches, then take a trip to Whitby Abbey, or visit Captain Cook’s memorial museum.

And remember If you want to bring your furry friend with you, for long coastal walks, the studio allows one small well-behaved dog.

Please note: on-street parking is available however, it's on a first come first serve basis. Duck Down Cottage is aptly named as taller guests may need to 'duck down' in the living room due to a couple of low lying beams- this adds to the charm and character of the property.

Very cute place in an ideal location would definitely recommend

It was very clean and cosy with everything needed to enjoy our holiday The low ceiling beams would be an issue for someone over 5,7 but due to us both being smaller humans this was not an issue

Lovely cottage in a great location.

Lovely cosy accommodation, very comfortable bed. Close to waterfront, shops, bars and cafes. Not really a negative - but need to be aware of low beams into bedroom and bathroom, ok for me at 5’5”, but partner had to ‘duck down’ (as cottage name implies) when entering bedroom and bathroom.

Amazing cottage

Spotlessly clean and fresh on arrival. Amazing use of a small space. Lots of nice touches feather pillows, tea& coffee etc, chocolate biscuits and a complimentary decanter! We are non drinkers but appreciate the thought. It was a great stay and would be more than happy to return. Obviously the low beams... my husband is over 6ft but he avoided them most of the time!

Utterly fabulous! Lovely host, great place to stay

Self catering facilities but we didn&#39t cook Loved the cosiness and warmth Ability to work at table with free wifi Shower powerful Ample hooks and hangers (not a given in Whitby) Great little shelves each side of bed for phone, glasses, cup of tea Soft blue throw was nice to use Gorgeous internal wooden doors with latches Chest of drawers so useful and a mobile mirror and a full length one Location super I am already looking forward to coming again 🙂 No shelf in the bathroom for hair&#47skin products Duvet quite unforgiving .. but did not taint the stay at all, just mentioning
