Agency Narrows Retreat is a simple, traditional Minnesota lake cabin located directly on Agency Narrows of Leech Lake, just outside Walker.
This is not a luxury or fully remodeled lake home, and we want guests to understand that before booking. The cabin is best suited for fishermen, boaters, outdoors-focused couples and small families who care more about being on Leech Lake than having upscale accommodations.
If you're looking for a polished vacation home with a gourmet kitchen, manicured grounds and resort-style amenities, this probably isn't the right property.
If you're looking for a comfortable Up North basecamp where you can bring the boat, spend the day fishing or exploring Leech Lake, relax on a large deck and enjoy having your own seasonal dock, we think you'll really enjoy it here.
### The Lake & Location
The biggest reason to stay here is Leech Lake.
The cabin sits on a wooded acre along Agency Narrows, the stretch of water connecting Agency Bay and Walker Bay. Guests have access to a seasonal private dock and can bring their own boat during open-water season.
From the property, you have convenient boating access to Agency Bay, Walker Bay and the larger lake. There is also room for boat-trailer parking on the property.
Walker is approximately 14 minutes away by car and about 10 minutes by boat, making it easy to enjoy restaurants, bars, groceries and shopping while still staying in a quieter wooded lake setting.
For fishermen and boaters, the location is the real highlight of the property.
### The Cabin
Inside you'll find a genuine Minnesota lake cabin with a mix of original Up North character and selected updates.
The bathroom has been fully remodeled and is one of the nicer, more updated areas of the cabin.
Other portions of the cabin are much older, including the kitchen and some appliances and fixtures.
The kitchen is basic and best suited for simple cabin meals. The range/oven is very old but functional. There is no dishwasher.
Guests who are excited to do a lot of elaborate cooking or who expect a modern, high-end kitchen may be happier choosing another property.
The cabin is cleaned between every stay, but some original surfaces, appliances and fixtures show permanent age and wear even when thoroughly cleaned. We think it is important for guests to understand the difference between something being clean and something being new.
High-speed WiFi is available.
The main cabin has furnace heat for cooler weather and a portable A/C unit in the main living area for hotter summer days. Fans are also provided. There is no central air conditioning.
### Sleeping Areas
The property works especially well for small families, fishing groups and guests who expect to spend much of their time outdoors.
The primary bedroom has a queen bed.
The bunk room has four individual bunk beds.
A separate seasonal guest cabin provides an additional queen bed. The guest cabin is intended for sleeping only, does not have a bathroom or kitchen, and is not heated, so it is primarily available during warmer months.
### The Deck
The large west and lake-facing deck is one of our favorite parts of the property.
It is a great spot for morning coffee, relaxing after fishing, enjoying a drink or simply taking in the view through the trees toward Agency Narrows.
### Important: Walk to the Dock
Please read this carefully before booking.
The cabin sits well above the shoreline.
Getting from the cabin to the dock requires walking down a fairly steep outdoor slope/path followed by stairs. The return trip to the cabin is uphill.
Most active guests should be comfortable with it, but this is not flat or easy lake access and
