Château Trieux sits just outside the village of Sauvetat-sur-Lède in the heart of the Lot-et-Garonne, a landscape of rolling sunflower fields and forested hillsides. Only ten minutes away lies Monflanquin, a storied bastide town with cafés, bakeries and weekly markets set among cobbled lanes and panoramic viewpoints. Bergerac, with its medieval centre and celebrated vineyards, is under an hour away and makes an ideal day trip for wine tasting or a boat ride along the Dordogne.

With the rolling hills of the Lot-et-Garonne on your doorstep and the prestigious Dordogne nearby, this is a setting of timeless beauty where fairy-tale villages, ancient bastides and golden-stoned châteaux rise above the mist each morning.


Just a short drive away lies Monflanquin (11.5km), a picture-perfect bastide town perched on a hilltop. Here, you’ll find all the essentials (shops, restaurants and charming cafés lining medieval arcades) just 10 minutes from the château. The village has been classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’.


Venture south to Villeneuve-sur-Lot (9km), a vibrant riverside town with lively markets and cultural festivals throughout the year as well as good-sized supermarkets. Nearby Pujols, another one of France’s Plus Beaux Villages, is a joy to explore, while the nearby hilltop village of Penne-d'Agenais, with its grand basilica and artisan boutiques, makes for a wonderful afternoon outing by the Lot River.


Heading north, explore deeper into the Dordogne and discover the architectural gems of Monpazier, Issigeac, and Eymet, all less than an hour’s drive away. These bastide villages, with their timbered façades and bustling squares, are living remnants of medieval France. Local antique and brocante markets are scattered throughout the region, and food lovers will delight in the abundance of Périgordian delicacies: foie gras, duck confit, ceps and truffle-infused specialities found in village markets and traditional auberges.


For a longer day out, Bergerac beckons with its cobbled lanes and handsome harbour, where gabarres once ferried barrels of wine. Today, you can enjoy river cruises, a miniature train tour through the old town and visit the statue of the flamboyant Cyrano de Bergerac himself. Wine enthusiasts should follow the Route des Vins de Bergerac, winding through the famed vineyards of Périgord Pourpre, where local growers welcome visitors for tastings in cellars and countryside estates.
