We stayed on the second floor and that's OK. This hotel has no elevator. It has a total of 5 floors. We walked to and from the hotel to the city's transportation. Three blocks was not too far. The hotel staff was always able to help us with finding our next place of interest. They had good maps and info for us.
We stayed 5 nights here. Location is very close to U-bahn and Tram service. Light breakfast was convenient, and the street and hotel were very quiet. A computer is available for use in the small breakfast room. (The bathroom towel warmer bar was a useful feature - Warm in the morning to dry your towels.) Staff was friendly and helpful - made our stay very pleasant.
Good ok with reasonable price easy to reach near citty center

A nice surprise
I chose the Stalehner based on price and was hopeful that it would work out ok. The place was ok. The staff was very nice and helpful, even though their english wasn't great. I would stay here again.

Fine service and good location
Ekstra payment for parking 10 Euro/Day. Breakfast was included, but also low standard. The receptionists were very helpful, and the hotel is close to the City of Vienna

Walking distance from city train station
The folks at Stalehner are friendly and helpful. The staff who checked us in did warn about the airconditioner. She was very honest. We insisted on a room with aircondition as we booked it. The air conditioning is NOT at all sufficient. It blows more like a fan than an airconditioner. There is NO elevator and we stayed on the top floor - two floors up - quite a climb with bags! Such details of no elevator and poor airconditioning should have been included.
nice hotel, in small alley, no major shopping attractions around, no enough dinning options.
the breakfast is modest... limited options.
free WiFi... Ok, but extremely slow.
Staff any very nice, and helpful.
Hotel Stalehner was disappointing. The staff were not very helpful. We had a car and wanted to put it in the car park but the receptionist said it was full, however, we could see it from the entrance that it was empty. Only one car there. In our room the carpet was black with dirt over the years. New carpet wouldnt go amiss. There were no coffee and tea making facilities or a fridge..
Having said all this there was breakfast provided - basic. The bathroom was ok. It was a tram ride to the city centre which was easy to get. It was also cheap.
It could be a really lovely old hotel if some upgrades were done.

OK but small
Rooms were incredibly small and no airco.. other room that we recently had in Vienna for the same rate was larger, updated and air co available...
Simple hotel, no trimmings but quite comfortable. Shower would be small for a big person, and two bed room would be small for two. Not close to town but fairly easy train access, big supermarket around the corner
I would recommend this hotel in Vienna.
For value it was very good for a weekend visit. Rooms are small but the hotel was extremely clean and staff friendly.
Breakfast is what you would expect from a continental hotel, rolls, meat, cheese, cornflakes and plenty of it with tea and coffee as you request.
Location is not as close as you may want but there is a tram stop 5 mins away from the hotel and once you get to grips with this it's perfect.
If I was to return to Vienna I would definitely consider staying here again.
Although it would not win any awards for style, the Hotel Stalehner makes a comfortable and convenient base for sightseeing in Vienna. It is in a quiet street within easy walking distance of the Alser Strasse U-Bahn station, from where you can also travel by tram into the city centre in little more than 5 minutes. Highly recommended.
Decent alternative when you need a cheap place to stay in Vienna and want a little more privacy than many hostels provide. No fan in the room and it was a bit stuffy. Convenient to the metro and includes breakfast.
It was hot in Vienna in July. Our a/c although not up to US standards, kept us comfortable. We do need to go back to Vienna to really explore the city without wilting! People were gracious and friendly. A neighborhood restaurant that was "closed" for private birthday party, opened up just for the "U.S." and served a fantastic dinner, they remembered us from the night before and our converstations. Loved the proximity to the Metro. Even took it to Westbanhof to meet our cycling group.
to explain it in one word: Satisfied.
I have stayed in 4 star hotels before in vienna but this 2 star hotel was the most satisfying so far. It was very clean, the staff was very nice and there prices are also low. The only thing i didnt like is the coffee there but it was ok as there were enough restauraunts around.
Although somewhat smaller than rooms in more expensive hotels, the twin one which we had was more than adequate as a base during our stay in Vienna. It had everything required: telephone, television and bathroom. The room was well cleaned and towles changed daily. Breakfast, though a basic continental type (rolls/cheese/salami/coffee/cereal/etc), was quite adequate. Reception staff were very helpful whenever we had a query.
We booked a basic family room and where pleasantly suprised at the large sized room, it also came with satellite TV and safe secure parking. No problems with slightly early check in and leaving the car there all day after check out.
Posizione tranquilla, in strada poco trafficata.
