THE SPACE:
The Plonk Shop Cottage is a beautifully renovated, light-filled two-bedroom cottage, thoughtfully set up to make you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive.
This cottage has rich history with it's original structure still standing from around 1918. It was first built as a wine saloon and accommodation for locals and those travelling through. Between 1935 and 1969 - when the wine saloon officially closed its doors - it was lovingly called The Plonk Shop.
Now updated and modernised for your every day comforts, the open-plan kitchen, dining and living space is warm and welcoming, with everything you need for an easy stay. Enjoy the simplicities of a morning coffee and a lazy breakfast or utilise the space for a full family dinner after a day of exploring. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a coffee machine, air fryer, dishwasher, oven, microwave and all the essentials.
The two bedrooms are comfortable and flexible, with a queen bedroom and a family room that can be arranged to suit your group. With 2 king singles and 2 single trundle beds, we can make most arrangements work to suit your visit. While the cottage can fit 6 guests comfortably, we recommend maximum 4 adults plus kids (unless the adults don't mind being cozy in the second bedroom).
We've also included the little things that make travelling with children easier, including travel cots, a high chair, children's dinnerware, books, toys and games. Please just let us know if you need these to be provided and set up once you've booked.
Pets are always welcome inside the cottage and out. We can provide basic pet amenities if needed. If your pets are friendly with other people (especially children) and animals, and are well behaved, you're welcome to have them off-leash. Otherwise please keep them leashed while outside. They are always 100% your responsibility.
Outside, there's a private back deck and semi-fenced yard (not 100% secure so young children and pets require adult supervision), with the front gardens, paddocks and countryside waiting beyond. Pick some fruit, watch the cows graze, look for the local wildlife or wander down to the Towamba River for a paddle and picnic (you can access the river via the back paddock - bottom left hand corner - or you can drive down via the road).
There is a fully stocked picnic basket in one of the dinning room cupboards for you to use at your leisure. You’ll also find Turkish beach towels here.
We have also dug up the original cricket pitch that was famously used in the 40's by the locals before they stopped in at The Plonk Shop for a drink. We can supply a cricket set if you want to be a part of the great Australian Backyard Tradition! Just let us know when you book or during your stay.
There's a BBQ and outdoor seating for long lunches and relaxed afternoons, while inside you'll find air conditioning, heating, TV and reliable Wi-Fi.
And if you're wanting to experience the endless starry night skies, be sure to take advantage of the back deck and immerse yourself in the magic that is wide open spaces. If you watch the back paddock closely at night, you'll also be able to see the many deer that graze the paddock too.
The cottage is completely detached from our home with a walkway in-between, giving you your own space while we're nearby if you need anything.
The roads into our property are all sealed and easy to drive in all vehicles, and if you are with Telstra you'll find full phone service available too.
We are a working farm and a young family. You'll often spot us out and about with very friendly children who love to say G'day!
We've put a lot of thought and love into making The Plonk Shop Cottage somewhere you can settle in, slow down, and feel at home. We hope you arrive as guests and leave feeling like you've been looked after by family.
GUEST ACCESS:
There are 3 on-site grassed parking spaces just to the left of the cottage entrance. You’ll have your own private entrance, private back deck and shared fenced garden area, with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the surrounds.
You’re also welcome to explore the gardens and nine-acre paddock surrounding the cottage, pick seasonal fruit, and wander down to the Towamba River to paddle, picnic and explore.
The property is a working farm, so some areas containing livestock are off-limits for safety. Otherwise, make yourself at home and enjoy the space!
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
We’d love for you to make the most of your time here, so if you need a recommendation, want to know what’s happening locally or simply have a question, please reach out. We’re nearby and always happy to help.
The Plonk Shop Cottage is on a real working farm, so you may see cattle being moved, spot wildlife around the property or notice the occasional bit of farm activity. There are also riverside campsites further down the property. They’re well separated from the cottage and you may see campers in the distance, but the cottage remains peaceful and private.
There’s plenty to explore beyond the farm too. Candelo, Pambula, Merimbula and Eden are all within easy reach, with beautiful beaches, rivers, markets, local produce, oysters, wildlife, walks and family-friendly adventures. You can also head across the Victorian border to explore Mallacoota and the spectacular East Gippsland coastline.
We’re happy to share our favourite local spots and keep you pointed towards what’s happening while you’re here, including markets, festivals, events and seasonal experiences.
If you need anything at all during your stay, just ask. We’re always happy to help you find your way around and make the most of your time in the valley.
