Experience Toledo Like a Local

Come experience Toledo from a home with history, character, and a whole lot of heart.

This charming 2-bedroom home comfortably sleeps up to 6 guests, with two queen beds and a comfortable sofa bed in the living room. With two full bathrooms, each equipped with a shower and hair dryer, there’s plenty of room for family and friends to relax and feel at home. Pets are welcome too!

But what makes this home truly special is its story.

Our great-grandparents purchased this home in 1939, and it remained in our family until 1974. After being away from the family for over 50 years, we were incredibly fortunate to bring it back into the family recently.

My father grew up here, surrounded by the love of his grandmother and grandfather. His grandfather spent 50 years working for the New York Central Railroad, and many of my father's very best childhood memories were made right here in this home.

One of those memories became a family tradition that has lasted for generations.

In the mid-1950s, my great-grandmother purchased the first television in our family and invited all of the cousins over for New Year's Day. On January 1, 1955, my father sat in the sunroom of this house and watched Ohio State play USC in the Rose Bowl, with Ohio State led by the legendary Howard "Hopalong" Cassady. Ohio State won that day, and something else began in that sunroom—a lifelong passion for Ohio State football.

My father carried that passion throughout his life and eventually passed it on to me. So, in a very real way, my Ohio State fandom began in this very house, sitting alongside my family in that sunroom on New Year's Day.

Our family's connection to the water runs just as deep.

My great-uncle Dick Krauss, my great-grandmother's son, was an accomplished sailor and an important part of the Great Lakes sailing community. He served as Commodore of the Toledo Yacht Club in 1956 and later became the second Commodore and first member of the North Cape Yacht Club, he helped found in La Salle, Michigan, in 1962. He also competed successfully in Lightning-class sailboat regattas throughout the Great Lakes, winning many along the way.

Growing up with this family history, we've always felt that sailing, the water, and being together near the river are simply part of who we are. It feels especially meaningful that this home, where so many of our family's memories began, is once again a place where people can gather, relax, and enjoy the water.

Located along Ottawa River Road, the home is a wonderful place to slow down and enjoy Toledo and the Great Lakes region. Whether you're visiting family, attending a sporting event, cheering on the Buckeyes, exploring Toledo, spending time on the water, traveling with your four-legged family members, or simply looking for a comfortable getaway, you'll find a welcoming home base here.

For our family, this house has always represented family, love, memories, and togetherness**. It was a home filled with love then, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to fill it with love again.

Now, we're opening the doors to you.

We hope you'll make some wonderful memories of your own in a house that has been making memories for generations.
