Cancelled Day prior to arrival

Stay was cancelled day before arrival via a message on the app. It was not cancelled by the host and I received the update when I logged in to find the entry instructions the evening of the reservation. 2.5 hour drive from the beach to the mountain, and 3 hours back because it was on a holiday the night before President's Day, Nothing else with three beds available. Called and requested a refund.

For a compact little cabin, was very roomy and although only 3, we could see where it could easily accommodate more. Had fireplace, nice sized kitchen, washer/dryer, and like the gated property so we could let the dog out to watch the scenery and critters running about. We saw a family of wild burros at the school parking up the road. The free trolley stops in front of the fire department up blocks away.

Listing Details Inaccurate, Host Unresponsive

Unfortunately we never got to stay at the property because of issues we had with the host and the check-in process. The host messaged us right before check-in to let us know that check-in would be delayed by a couple hours because the cleaners weren't done yet, pushing check-in to after 6pm. I'm not sure what we were supposed to do for a couple extra hours, especially with two young children in the car. When we received her message, we were already waiting outside of the property. When I complained, she said we could cancel and that she'd reimburse us in full. She didn't make any other offers, i.e. to extend check-out or reimburse us for a night, so, at this point, I felt like cancelling was the best thing to do. However, it being a holiday weekend, we struggled to find alternative accommodations and had to cut our trip short a night. It's been four days and the host has become unresponsive to our request for a refund status update. I had to file a claim with my credit card company and VRBO in order to recoup the money we lost. Due to last minute changes to the check-in process and an unresponsive host, I would advise folks do not book this property.
