Best location to stay for visiting Preikesolen. Bueatiful lake view.
The fire alarm box started making sounds, as it had a fault on it at 03:00 in the morning. This also meant that there was no lights or electricity in any of the rooms, as it only left the emergency light on.
This hotel was the perfect base camp for hiking to Preikestolen. The lake setting is beautiful and there is kayaking and disc golf and many different hikes. The hike up to Pulpit Rock has three steep step inclines met with meadows and wide rock spaces. The hike is worth every step for the stunning and memorable views. It's quite an experience to look over the side of a cliff down about 2,000 feet. The hotel is rustic with it's front steps at the trailhead. The staff are helpful and friendly (thank you Adam and Natallia!). Most surprising feature in this hiking type lodge was the incredible dinners. The Norwegian food is prepared as in a five star restaurant and a had to thank the chef for the Asparagus soup and the meatball and vegetables main course. The room is comfortable with a nice lake view. A great stay!
This is the best hotel for Pulpit Rock hiking. The service and breakfast are very good. The only thing is it is not very quiet because some people need to get up very early to hike to Pulpit Rock.
My teenage daughter and I spent one night here in June 2025 and it was a great stay! We arrived in the evening and the self-check-in didn’t work because we booked through Hotels.com so we had to check-in at the “Barception”. Then we had dinner at the restaurant—only a few options but good food and amazing views. Room was clean and neat. The Hiker Cafe the next day was awesome. Overall great stay.
This hotel has an incredible location right at the trail head to Pulpit Rock. The area is truly beautiful. I was a bit put off by a few things during my stay. The reason we chose to stay here as it was quite expensive was because on expedia they advertise that they have a floating sauna. I naively thought this meant that guests could go to the floating sauna for free. That is not the case at all. It was rather embarassing we changed into our bathing suits and walked all the way down to the floating sauna (which is about 1km walk) only to discover we were interrupting a couple who informed us that you have to pay to use the sauna and book your own time slot. We walked 1km up to the activity center and asked and it was very expensive. There is no discount for hotel guests and we were not in the position to pay that much to use a sauna. I asked at the hotel and they said that they have their own sauna and hot tub but its closed until June. I was also surprised that there is no actual parking for hotel guests anywhere close to the hotel and you park with all the other hikers. There is nowhere to drop off luggage and I had a giant suitcase (I regretted that choice) and the parking lot is a dirt/gravel road. So don’t bring a wheely suitcase here! I also thought it was ridiculous that you had to pay for coffee in the lobby despite being a guest. Normally hotels have complimentary coffee for their guests. It just felt like were being nickle and dimed despite a high room rate.
