Its ideal location between Matsumoto, the Kiso Valley, and the Yatsugatake mountain range makes Shimosuwa an excellent choice for your stay. It’s the perfect base for a cycling trip, featuring a spacious, lockable basement for your bikes, free and ample parking for cars, great trails for mountain bikes, and quiet roads and passes for road bikes. There’s a fantastic MTB/hiking trail that starts just 10 meters from your front door. <br>Supermarkets, temples, hot springs, the train station, and parks for kids are only a few minutes away by car. <br>Shimosuwa is also famous for its Onbashira Festival, held every six years; the next one will take place from May 3 to 16, 2028. The main attraction is “Kiotoshi,” where about ten men ride a 20-metric-ton tree down a steep slope—it’s just a 5-minute drive away.
