About this property

Antietam House Historic Sharpsburg Retreat

Welcome to Antietam House, a charming historic home located in the heart of Sharpsburg, Maryland. This 3-bedroom, 1.5-bath home sits inside the Sharpsburg Historic District, just moments from Antietam National Battlefield and many of the region’s most beloved historic and outdoor destinations.

Your cozy getaway awaits in Sharpsburg at this adorable house. With three full bedrooms and two bathrooms, guests have plenty of space to relax and unwind. The home stays comfortable year-round thanks to heating and air conditioning. An iron is also available for those who like to keep their clothes looking sharp. Whether you’re here for a weekend escape or a longer stay, this marvelous house offers a peaceful retreat. Our place will help you feel at home while you're traveling in Sharpsburg.
The original footprint of this home dates back to 1790 and once served as a post office during the Civil War era. An addition was built in the 1850s, expanding the home while preserving its historic charm. Today, the home blends that rich history with comfortable modern conveniences for a relaxing stay.
Sharpsburg itself has a deep and powerful story. Founded in 1763 by Joseph Chapline, it became the first town established in what is now Washington County. On September 17, 1862, the Battle of Antietam—the bloodiest single day of the Civil War—took place here. Over 23,000 soldiers were killed, wounded, or missing. Despite the devastation, the community rebuilt, and today the town still looks remarkably similar to how it did in the 1800s.
Staying here places you right in the center of this historic landscape.
You are just seconds from local favorites including Nutter’s Ice Cream, Burkholder’s Bakery, and Captain Bender’s Tavern, along with several charming small-town shops and cafés.
There is plenty to explore during your stay:
• Antietam National Battlefield
• Burnside Bridge
• Antietam National Cemetery
• C&O Canal Towpath
• Potomac River fishing and kayaking
• Shepherdstown, WV shopping and dining
• Harpers Ferry National Historical Park
• Washington Monument State Park
• South Mountain hiking trails
• Crystal Grottoes Caverns
After a day of exploring, relax in the small fenced backyard or enjoy the enclosed porch, which also provides a secure place to store bicycles if you're riding the canal trail.
Whether you're here for history, outdoor adventure, or a peaceful small-town getaway, Antietam House offers a unique opportunity to stay in a piece of American history.
We look forward to hosting you.
