Schwelm is a town in Westphalia that is over 500 years old, located directly on the border with the Rhineland. As the current county seat of the Ennepe-Ruhr District (NRW), Schwelm—along with the district—is considered part of the Ruhr region, which extends to the north. To the south, the town transitions into the scenic plateaus of the Bergisch-Sauerland Mountains.
