The positive was the Staff, excellent characters , pleasant and friendly. The hotel room in my opinion was not worth £200 a night by any stretch of the imagination. The loose floor board, to the old stained carpet, to the old net curtains to the cobwebs , the light bulb out in the bathroom, inconsistent hot water to the bath. We will not and would not stay in a hotel in Scarborough in the future. Scarborough as a town is in serious need of a regeneration fund. The large town centre shopping centre is dead “empty”! The other aspects of Scarborough the gardens, fenicular rail, the beaches and the stunning views are excellent!

GREAT HOTEL

We’ve visited this hotel several times. We love the location, the free parking, and we don’t believe there is a better cooked breakfast anywhere. The building is very old, and although the public areas are lovely, the rooms are showing their age a bit. However, the beds are great, the showers are powerful, and there’s lots of storage. The food and drink is quite expensive, but there’s lots of restaurants and pubs nearby.

Good location, but disappointed with rooms

The whole hotel is dated and needs some TLC, but being dated is ok, being dirty isn’t. The first room we were given was visibly dirty throughout the room and bathroom - stained toilet seat, dirty water glass, grime in shower and on bathroom door. We raised it with reception and were given another room - which was better but still had stains on the ceiling and water damage to the unit in the bathroom, also a visibly dirty and stained shower curtain. We were told this was the only other room available in the hotel so no other option. We didn’t receive housekeeping (only got back to hotel room late so it was too late to raise it by then). Also the guest information says foam firm pillows available on request. But when requested we were told none available and given two more soft pillows. Location great, guaranteed parking and breakfast are also a big plus. Staff overall tried to be helpful. But we left feeling very disappointed at the state of cleanliness and facilities in the rooms, and basic level of service.

Great hotel very close to the core entertainment and city experiences. Great of you are going to the theatre. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Hotel was in a great location with parking an added bonus. Breakfast was good and waiting staff polite and helpful. Rooms were all of different sizes (ours being large but other room in booking very small even though booked 2 of the same) We had the awful smell of cooking and fat constantly in our room and couldn’t bear the windows open. Cleaning not up to scratch, found lots of dust and a dirty tissue behind beside cabinet, old label just under bed and bleach stains all over bathroom floor. All rooms could do with some upgrade or a lick of paint on all chipped woodwork. Rooms were replenished daily with yea/ coffee/ hot chocolate and biscuits. Towels also changed daily. Overall not a bad stay just needs updating and tidying up. Maybe less charge for smaller room for one person instead of paying same price as a room much larger for two people.

Disliked: Amenities
The hotel is now looking “tired” and in need of a deep clean. The carpets throughout need a shampoo and some important aspects need an overhaul eg: bathrooms and staircase. We stayed in room 11 which was quite compact. The bed and pillows were very comfy. The key issue was the smell in the room which was coming from the en-suite. We believe it is drain related but has the odour of rotting cabbage. It penetrates into the bedroom and “hits” you as you enter the room. Periodically there was a smelly drain odour too which again filled the room. The room was warm so we had the window open. This meant we could hear the seagulls at all hours and the noise until the early hours from the pub opposite. Breakfast was overall good but service differed on the two mornings and the quality of the food. Day 1 my husband ordered porridge and it took forever. The cooked breakfast was fresh and tasty. Day 2 the sausage, black pudding and bacon were overcooked. This hotel has huge potential - it needs some TLC. A good thorough clean would help enormously. It’s in a fantastic spot and the free parking a bonus. I hope this review is received in the spirit it’s written hoping the hotel can survive into the future.

It is the ideal venue for a 'traditional' seaside holiday stay, particularly for the 'older' guest (like us). Although it is not the most up to date, that is part of the attraction, and the service is impeccable.

Sci-fi Scarborough

I stayed at the Palm hotel for a business weekend. The hotel was very clean. Good choice of options for evening meals. Breakfast options were excellent. The staff were attentive but not intrusive. Really good location only five minutes drive from the railway station and minutes to the venue I was attending.
