A beautiful, peaceful place surrounded by nature, conveniently close to the main road and São Vicente. The staff are incredibly kind and helpful. We loved the delicious breakfast which included fresh local produce. The pool, sauna, and lovely little terrace are perfect for relaxing. Highly recommended!

A little piece of paradise!

This place is very special and has outstanding views across Sao Vicente. The staff are wonderful and it has a real ‘retreat’ style feeling. Highly recommend!!

Higher expectations which didn’t materialise

Pictures in the website do not truly reflect the actual condition of the place. It’s dated and in need of some basic maintenance. Doors catching on the floors, tarnished brass on door handles, musty smell, … overall appearance is tired and could do with a freshen up. Room service/cleaning only done if booked the day before (and before 6 pm) which was sneakily put through. Not what I would expect for the price charged, it should be by default! Breakfast was ok but average quality foods. Staff was very nice and friendly though

The quiet and very beautiful small hotel is situated in a valley near the northern coast of the island. The approach is partly steep, but otherwise unproblematic. The accommodation is very well connected to the other places on Madeira by a well driveable expressway - in only a few minutes you reach the southern "sunny side" of the island. All the sightseeings of the island as well as the hiking trails can be easily reached from this accommodation, whereby the north-east of the island is less well developed in terms of traffic. Our room was very nicely and tastefully furnished - with a wonderful view to the rugged valley. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, we immediately felt very comfortable. Since we don't need breakfast, we limited ourselves to coffee in the morning, which can be freshly prepared around the clock for free at a self-service counter. There is also fresh water, tea, a honesty-bar etc. In the evening you can warm yourself at a cosy fireplace. We enjoyed our stay very much - and would book the "Solar da Bica" at any time again as accommodation.

Parfait endroit pour un séjour paisible à Sao Vicente. L'ambiance calme qui y règne nous donnait envie de chuchoter. La vue de notre chambre était magnifique, surtout au lever du soleil où pouvait admirer le "montain glow". Le déjeuners inclut était composé d'ingrédients frais et variés, comme les fruits du jardins et le yogourt maison. Nous y avons passé deux nuits et on aurait voulu rester plus longtemps!

Worth the drive

It is a very nice hotel, but the road to get there is difficult and there is no restaurant at the hotel, at least in winter, so you have to get out to eat. The staff is very nice and the breakfast is among the best.

Comme à la maison

Petit hôtel excentré par rapport à Sao Vicente mais très agréable. Nous avions réservé l'appartement en rez de jardin. Il était parfaitement équipé. Le personnel de l'hôtel est particulièrement sympathique et disponible. L'hôtel dispose d'un portager dans lequel vous pouvez prendre légumes et fruits à volonté. L'hôtel ne dispose pas de restaurant mais il y en a plein a Sao Vicente (10min de route). Nous avons pu également profiter de la piscine et du sauna (ce dernier en supplément mais privatisé). Pas mal de randonnées à proximité également !

Bonne qualité de séjour et services mais ...

Je regrette mais la localisation de l'hôtel s'est avéré un problème pour moi : rue vraiment très ride et étroite à l'arrivée (je me suis vraiment demandée si je devais passe là), hôtel situé très haut et très loin de Sao Vicente : la vue n'est pas meilleure que plus bas, le calme pas plus calme, bref pour moi cela ne vaut pas le coût de monter là haut. La piscine : elle ferme peu de temps après le retour d'excursions 20h, résultat pas mis les pieds dedans. Le petit déjeuner est copieux (charcuterie, fromage, pain, fruits, céréales) mais sans plus. Bref, c'est la 1e fois en 30 ans que je ne suis pas d'accord avec le Routard.

Very friendly staff and lovely setting. Need a car to get around. Breakfast optional but fresh and varied- continental breakfast. Good walks a short drive away. Loved our stay.
