About this property
Earthship retreat + 2 spa hot tubs w/ waterfall + Incredible Mountain Views
Minutes from town and a world apart: Restore your soul in natural mountain bliss high above Santa Fe. Enjoy your own spacious "earthship" eco-home with well-appointed midcentury modern living space, dining areas, and workspace.
Ease into the custom built-in hot tub, surrounded by rock walls with stunning mountain views or enjoy the roof tub.
You'll have access to a spa/yoga space, a fenced area for pets, and café seating on the terrace, all with incredible sunrise and sunset views.
The space
. Enter into a spacious great room. A wall of light from the floor-to-ceiling windows nourishes your spirit and cultivates the greenery of the built-in planters. A fully equipped kitchenette with a microwave, induction burner, toaster, and fridge await. A dining area with a four-top Italian wood dining table is ready for takeout and home-cooked meals. A dedicated workspace, cozy living area with Roku TV, and a sit-in bar top finish off the space. Browse the eclectic bookshelves and enjoy listening to a CD or two with Bose speakers. Open the windows and skylight to feel the mountain air or turn on the evaporative cooler to freshen things up in the early afternoon.
Alcoves off the great room guide you to two well-appointed bedrooms with queen-size beds and memory foam toppers. Each bedroom opens onto the full bathroom.
*WINTER NOTE* As this is an Earthship, it does not have central heat. There is a propane space heater in the main room, a wall heater in the main bedroom, and an electric space heater in the second bedroom. The main room's temperature may be colder than you are used to at night and in the morning hours.
Shared Spaces:
The unit is a large guest house situated on a property with another residence and some amenities are shared with the main house, but there's plenty of time for privacy and the amenities are not used at the same time that guests are using them.
Behind the guest house is a shared 1000 sq. ft. fenced-in area where you can enjoy ridgetop outdoor dining with expansive views of Santa Fe.
A stone path from the guest house takes you to the shared spa/yoga area, which hosts a custom built-in hot tub, dedicated for your use whenever you'd like. A rock wall lines the spa, with commanding views of both the city of Santa Fe and the mountains of the Santa Fe National Forest. An antique Indian oxcart awaits as your daybed for luxurious relaxation, while yoga mats, aromatherapy, a 3/4-bath slate tile bathroom, and a stereo complete the space. The spa sits between the main house and the guest house but it's yours to use privately whenever you like.
On the outdoor terrace above the spa is another shared sitting area with a bistro table. Don't miss out on the exceptional sunsets over the Jemez Mountains, with the twinkling city lights below. A rooftop infinity spa is also available for open air bathing with incredible views.
Guest access
Our home and guest house sit high above Santa Fe on a ridgetop adjoining the Santa Fe National Forest. We are surrounded by juniper, piñon, cacti, and other native flora.
From our doorstep you can enjoy commanding views of the Santa Fe National Forest, the City of Santa Fe, the Jemez Mountains, and the plains and mountain ranges toward Albuquerque.
Our property is accessed by a mountainous unpaved road. While a standard car can certainly make it, a higher clearance vehicle will be a more comfortable ride. **Please contact us for more information about winter weather accessibility. The road may not be passable if there is snow accumulation. Chains, 4wd, and winter snow experience is required.***
Private parking is available in front of the guest house and garage parking can also be made available. We are 7.2 miles from the plaza, 2.2 miles from Harry's Roadhouse, and 3.3 miles from I-25.
Other things to note
Our home is situated up high in the mountains and we have regular sightings of mule deer, gopher snakes, ravens, and the occasional black bear, bobcat, and mountain lion. We've done our best to ensure you'll have no unwanted guests, but we do not use any chemicals that could harm humans or wildlife.
Please exercise caution as you drive on our unpaved road to and from the property, particularly in inclement weather. While a sedan will certainly be fine, a higher clearance vehicle is recommended for your comfort. Please note that the road traverses and switchbacks up a steep hillside and does not have guardrails.
We are passionate about supporting local artisans and producers and have chosen only local businesses to provide our signature eco-friendly amenities.
Due to extreme wildfire danger, we don't allow any smoking or fires on the property.
We welcome all travelers. Love is love. All ages are welcome, but our open access hot tubs, wildlife, cacti, and planters mean that the property is not particularly infant/child friendly.
The indoor hot tub does not have a safety cover but is in an enclosed area. The outdoor hot tub has no barrier but has a suitable cover. Both hot tubs are designed to be in keeping with the natural environment and do not have handrails, steps, or underwater lighting.
There is an unfenced pond on the far side of the property. Be cautious in allowing children or pets to explore unattended.
The natural stone pathways are uneven, do not have handrails, and may be slippery in rain or snow. To honor the dark sky, lighting on the property is minimal. Carry a flashlight or your phone and walk carefully at night.
