The office was open (1700) but no one in the office when I went to check in. Rang the bell for 15 minutes and called the local phone # which I could hear ring loudly in the back room. Chatted with Hotels.com chatbot trying to get in contact the property....While chatting, I could hear the phone ringing and ringing and ringing....finally the clerk finally came to the desk....seemed like he had just awakened (time was 1725)...got checked in went to room...room was very clean. About 4 hours later went to take a shower.....no hot water....let water run for 15 minutes; still no hot water. I called the desk (21:00) and there was no answer. Tried the desk every few minutes after that....finally got an answer. Desk apologized and said to give the water 5 minutes before trying again...15 minutes later the hot water worked. Got an email apology from the property regarding the check-in process. Property offered to give me discount on my next visit....I live 200 miles away and I see no need to return. BTW there were only 6 cars in the parking lot when I left at 0600 in the morning; it wasn't as if the property was so busy that base line customer service levels should have been impacted..

Amenities lacking and worse. Literally no lamps just overhead lights. Bathroom sink worked fine but cabinet in disrepair. The most glaring issue, which I realized in morning, is that bedding probably had not been washed - found numerous hairs once I pulled the comforter further and further back.
Discovered these after seeing others and investigating just how unclean is this bed.

Overall, the experience was fine. Not great, not bad. The doors didn't want to shut tightly so you really had to push hard to get them to lock. It's next door to a dispensary but they seem to be all over Santa Cruz and it didn't seem to be a negative reason to not stay there. Just something to be aware of. The place was clean and fine for a motel experience.

The front desk clerk was nice enough but he told us there would be a complimentary few things like coffee in the morning starting at 630am well even at 7 they still weren’t open. The listing said newly remodeled and while there may have been a new bathroom mirror and shelf the sink had strands of hair in it and the faucet hadn’t been wiped not to mention the sink was terribly chipped,the side of the vanity looked like it had been soaked and just left to rot. The headboard was particle board that had been painted. The shower was very odd and had a literal toilet paper dispenser on the wall. The hallway was gross. Didn’t look like it was ever cleaned or wiped down and neither were the room doors. With all that being said the bedding was clean and the bed wasn’t horrible with distinct indents. The rooms were also fairly quite even with guest up and down the hall and in the rooms to either side.

Drug dealers in the room next door

The room was not bad, but there were what appears to be regulars next door, it was like a drive through with people coming and going all hours of the night. Very unrestful sleep here
