Enjoyable stay

Enjoyed my stay grounds are beautiful. I didn’t stay in the palace but in the building next store. My room was a basic single room. It was comfortable and clean. I would definitely stay again. The area and palace is beautiful and the breakfast in the palace was the best I have had at a hotel. Staff was nice and professional. The young lady who checked me out was especially helpful and nice.

Friendly and helpful front desk and breakfast staff! Room is much better than I remember from ten years ago, 5 star now. Booked this to be able to have the special ‘Sound of Music’ movie connection. As a note, contrary to what I had read on another website … the temporary S. of M. museum (that is opening in 2026 at ‘Hellbrunn ‘) artifacts are NOT located at the ‘Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron’.

Staff are really welcoming and helpful and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable Lovely main house which you’re free to visit at your leisure. Great breakfast & grounds are breathtaking! Free bikes worth using to visit lake & surrounding area. Hotel also gives vouchers for use in next door swimming pools & other facilities ( these close in Sept) which is an idyllic area fabulous for families

Highly rated place as the Palace is certainly very interesting and full of history. Many spots to hang around and beautiful area. However for the price there is a lot missing. 850 Cad per night for “premium ” room for 4 CAD in the Meierhof building where most people stay. This area is quite old and reminds me of a motel 6. Note it can be quite warm at night in August as there is no air conditioning here. They provide a fan. The breakfast is also a dud. It is highly rated by many people but seriously it’s nothing special. I have been to many less expensive and lesser hotel that provided a much better breakfast. It is served in a beautiful palace room but otherwise the food is pretty bad. The smoked salmon has a funny taste on both mornings and does not smell or taste like smoked salmon. The bacon is of poor quality cut and reminds me of typical fare served at Holiday Inn express. Their croissant is of poor quality. So yes the food is not representative of a high end place. The staff otherwise are very nice. Overall, not worth the price.

I came due to the connections with the Sound of Music and to be able to walk the grounds there. The decor is simple, I guess since in an annex. This was the highest price I paid for any booking while I was in Germany and Austria for this trip- and the most modest accommodations. It was similar to a dorm room. It was also the only one without AC. The breakfast was great. But I would book again to have that accessabililty.

夢のような滞在でした。憧れのサウンド・オブ・ミュージックのロケ地に泊まることができて、一生の思い出になりました。またぜひ泊まりにいきたいです。 音楽祭期間中でしたが、静かに過ごせて快適でした。 城内部の保存状態も素晴らしく、見て楽しめました。庭の景観も大変素晴らしい。音楽祭創設者が所有してたこともあるそうで、そのちょっとした展示が興味深かった。 朝は、テラス席から素晴らしい景色を眺めながら優雅に朝食ブッフェを食べ、もっとのんびり、ゆっくりこの優雅な空気を味わいたいと思いました。 街や駅からのアクセスはまぁまぁ。時間が合えば、バスでのアクセスが楽。街からは少し離れてますが、散歩がてら歩くといいです。

This is the second time I’ve stayed at this hotel, and we love the peaceful location by the water and it being the “back of the house” in Sound a Music. It now has a bar in it too! It’s 1-2 miles to old town, but we didn’t mind a walk or uber. Would definitely stay again!

Very average hotel, don’t be fooled by all the Sound of Music advertising blurb. Wedding in the palace when we were there so limited access, no aircon, room small and very noisy. Staff not interested when checking out the next day. I definitely wouldn’t stay again, certainly not cheap or value for money. Personally, I think you would be better offer saving your money and staying in the city.

What an amazing place! We stayed for three nights while travelling thru Europe on our honeymoon. The service was excellent, the breakfast was delicious, and the property is full of history in every corner. It’s a little ways from the town centre so just make sure you take the 20-25 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride into account when planning. There is a bus stop right outside the main entrance. Would absolutely stay here again!
