Just back from four days at the San Francesco. It's a perfect base from which to explore Rome. We found that most of the big tourist 'must sees' were within about half an hour's walking time from the hotel, but there's also a tram stop and bus options if that's a little too far.
The welcome we got was exceptional, warm, friendly and in perfect English and the staff very generously listened to our poor attempts at Italian without laughing.
The room was small but comfortable and clean, pretty much what I was expecting for a reasonably priced city hotel, with a nice sized bathroom. We could have done with tea and coffee making facilities in the room, but considering the hotel is surrounded by cafes and bars this wasn't really an issue.
The area feels safe, there's a bit of street noise but you really have to accept that is part of city life. Trastevere is a bustling area full of dining and drinking options, and a good place to escape to after an afternoon being pushed out of the way by flag waving tour guides in the city centre.
It's quite possibly the friendliest hotel that we have stayed at in recent years, everyone on the staff was helpful, kind and courteous, traits that are sadly becoming less common these days.
Stay here, you won't regret it.
