I was very disappointed by this booking.
I had to wait 35+ minutes from the arranged check-in time for the property manager to arrive. So frustrating, as we had discussed before, that I had a time-sensitive schedule that if I knew they were going to be late or the agreed meeting time was not feasible, I would have made other arrangements. I hate when my time is wasted, and I ended being late for my appointment.
The mold. The apartment itself was just not well maintained. Mold all the grout and counters in the grout and the calking. I was excited to find this listing as it had a small kitchen. However, I didn't feel comfortable cooking where it is mold-infested. The washing machine door was closed upon arrival, and you could see the condensation. I opened the door to let it air out but was greeted by more mold and a revolting stench. I had to wash my clothes twice as the first round of washing left the clothes with a dewy, musty odor.
There was no attention to detailing when cleaning. Not in the sense that they accidentally missed a small spot when they cleaned last, but thick layers of dust. Usually wouldn't be a big deal as I would be able to do a little tidying up of the space, but this was a new level.
I was also not made aware by the property owner that I would be paying additional taxes. I have new issues paying city taxes/tourism taxes but was caught off guard as it was a somewhat significant amount for a very short stay, and I was required to pay cash and that they would not accept credit cards. I have never run into the issue of being expected to pay a large sum of money at the last minute with no warning. I do not recall seeing anything saying there would be additional taxes on the property. It just seemed off as I had a list of taxes included in my original list of charges.
I was aware of the spiral staircase when booking, but wow, those stairs are deceiving. They are very slippery, and some of the steps you cant even get your entire foot on. I didn't think it would be an issue as I am young and very active, but I was very nervous going down the stairs. Going up the stairs was okay, but going down was another story. Please note that the bathroom is on the second level. I limited going up and down the stairs and didn't even bring my bags upstairs as I was worried about falling bringing them back down.
Regardless, the property's location was excellent near the Vatican, near a bus station, and by many small shops and restaurants.
