Tucked into a secluded valley surrounded by thousands of acres of the Nantahala National Forest, Whippoorwill Lake is a peaceful escape with few neighbors nearby. Mornings here are calm - coffee on the porch, birdsong, and wake-up calls from the chickens and donkeys at the farm across the lake.
The 1.5-acre private spring-fed lake has a new floating dock with a 10-foot-deep swimming area and a gorgeous view of the mountains. Relax on the dock's lounge chairs, paddle around the lake, or fish for bass and bluegill. Camping hammocks are ready to hang from pre-installed straps on trees near the fire pit. Several short walking trails cross the 8-acre property, and just across the road is a 7-mile gated forest road great for hiking or biking.
The cabin has two bedrooms: a primary with a new memory foam queen mattress, and a second room with a full bed plus twin bunk beds. Enjoy the fully stocked kitchen, gas grill, covered porch, and a newly expanded deck.
Stay close and unwind, or head out: Nantahala River whitewater rafting, trout fishing, and the Bartram Trail are 7 minutes away; NOC and Robbinsville / Lake Santeetlah (dining, groceries, boat rentals) are each 15 minutes out. Evenings mean s'mores by the fire, whippoorwill calls, or a soak in the hot tub. Snowbird Mountain Lodge, 30 minutes away, is perfect for a fine dining night out.
Note: the cabin uses HughesNet satellite internet — fine for browsing, calls, and standard streaming, but not high-def streaming or gaming, and it may drop during storms. That's your cue to grab a movie from the DVD collection or start a card game instead.
