About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
Spacious detached holiday home, sleeps 7 with 2 furry friends, free WiFi, two pubs nearby.
Brookside is a spacious, detached Yorkshire Dales holiday cottage offering peaceful accommodation for up to 7 guests. Tucked away along a quiet farm track, it sits just a short stroll from the village green in Langthwaite, Arkengarthdale—one of the most remote and unspoilt valleys in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Full of charm and character, the cottage features exposed beams, real wood flooring, and a traditional feel throughout, making it a wonderful base for exploring this quieter corner of the Dales. Langthwaite itself is a picture-postcard village surrounded by dramatic scenery and may be familiar to fans of the original All Creatures Great and Small series. Within walking distance you’ll find two excellent pubs: The Red Lion, a traditional dales pub known for its warm welcome and knowledgeable local landlady, and The CB Inn, offering gastro-style dining, fine wines, real ales, and an impressive gin selection.
Inside, Brookside offers three bedrooms and sleeps up to seven guests comfortably. There is a king-size master bedroom, a twin room overlooking the farmland, and a third bedroom with a single bed and bunk beds—ideal for families or mixed groups. The family bathroom is also upstairs and includes a bath, separate shower cubicle, wash basin, and WC.
On the ground floor, the cottage has a welcoming layout with a characterful dining room featuring exposed beams and an original fireplace with brickwork detail. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped, offering generous workspace, storage, and a small breakfast table—perfect for relaxed meals or morning coffee. A practical rear entrance hall provides a useful space for walking boots and outdoor gear after a day exploring. The comfortable sitting room offers cosy seating around an open fire, along with a smart TV for relaxed evenings in.
Outside, the property benefits from private parking for up to three cars, a garage for secure bike storage, and outdoor seating areas to both the front and rear. To the rear, a gravelled terrace enjoys far-reaching views across the farmland, complete with a picnic bench.
Brookside is well heated with oil-fired central heating and benefits from free WiFi throughout. It is also dog friendly, welcoming up to two well-behaved dogs.
Step outside and you’re immediately surrounded by some of the most beautiful walking country in the Yorkshire Dales. From challenging hikes up Fremington Edge or Calver Hill to gentler riverside walks, there’s something for every level of ability. Wildlife enthusiasts will also be in their element, with regular sightings of birds such as lapwing, curlew, pheasant, grouse, and even the occasional deer in nearby woodland.
Cyclists are equally well catered for, with superb road and off-road routes from the doorstep. Explore historic mining tracks and scenic valleys off-road, or take on the famous Tan Hill loop and reward yourself with a stop at the Tan Hill Inn—the highest pub in England—before enjoying the return ride back down to the cottage.
Brookside is also ideally placed for exploring the wider Northern Dales, with the popular village of Reeth nearby and market towns including Richmond, Leyburn, Hawes, Barnard Castle, and Kirkby Stephen all within easy reach.
