The area is deservedly popular for hiking and cycling, as there are many mountain-bike routes and hiking trails that allow visitors to get out into nature. Visit the Bloke Plateau (20 minutes) for exciting trails, or the Rakov Skocjan Nature Park (25 minutes). In the winter months, there are also cross-country skiing trails.
Not to be missed is Notranjski Park (45 minutes), with its population of bears, lynx and wolves. Also the Krizna Jama cave complex (28 minutes) including 22 underground lakes connected by waterways. Visitors explore the caves in kayaks, a magical experience.
Ljubljana is a small city packed with history. It makes the ideal day trip. A tour of its medieval castle is not to be missed. Neither is a visit to the Central Market where you can find fresh local produce and regional delicacies.
