Such an amazing hotel, saw monkeys and a sloth while having breakfast. Only staying here when I come back to Costa Rica! Andres, Joseph, and everyone were so amazing and helpful! Food was also five stars!!!

La Mariposa was a highlight of our trip. The property is beautiful, and the view is absolutely incredible. Waking up to floor to ceiling windows and an ocean and national park view never got old. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the infinity pool overlooking the ocean was a favorite spot. We even saw monkeys on the property. Breakfast each morning was wonderful, and the staff were so lovely and accommodating throughout our stay. The property’s location is ideal, within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The beach is about a 25 minute downhill walk and there’s also a property shuttle to the beach if you don’t feel like walking. We are absolute looking forward to staying here again.

The location and views make it worth it! I was disappointed that the room was so sparsely appointed. There was no where to sit other than on the bed even though the room was huge. I was also shocked that the bathroom was stocked with the bare minimum. One hand towel and two bath towels. We made a VIP reservation for the sunset dinner which required buying a bottle of wine. We were happy to do so but patrons than were not required to make the same investment continuously walked behind our table to take pictures while our food was being served. It would have been nice for the staff to discourage this rude behavior. Again, the views make up for a lot but a few elevated touches would improve the guest experience.

The property is beautiful, with lush landscaping and an infinity pool that’s perfect for relaxing while taking in the stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. We saw white-faced capuchin monkeys, a large group of squirrel monkeys passing through the property, and even a three-toed sloth on site. The rooms are basic but clean, and the food is delicious. Don’t expect luxury rooms; this is a place you come for the incredible location, unforgettable views, and great food.

The view from La Mariposa is spectacular. When you stay here you can expect friendly and helpful staff, fabulous food (breakfast is included with your stay), and the occasional wildlife sighting. We were greeted each morning by curious monkeys and colorful birds, which added another dynamic to our stay that made it unforgettable.

We have stayed in the area several times before, further down the road by Playa Biesanz, and remembered passing La Mariposa on our way to town, so this trip decided to give it a try. It’s conveniently located near shops and restaurants but is still quiet enough to have plenty of wildlife on the property. We saw not one but TWO sloths on the property, and both Capuchin and Squirrel Monkeys, not to mention the adorable Agouti that played near our patio. Then there are the birds…. So many! The room was a little weird with the bathroom sink quite a distance away in the living room, but this gave room for a bidet in the bathroom and for that I say THANK YOU! Also we almost died slipping on the bathroom floor but they provided a second towel and that issue was resolved. The bed, and the red lights by the bed were really nice. We had a lot of privacy off our patio so we slept with the curtains open and enjoyed the 5AM wake up calls of the Macaws and spent a lot of time enjoying the view. Our room was down a flight of stairs, and we had a few tent making bats surprise us at night. This is not a complaint….we loved it! The pools are all amazing with incredible sunset views and comfy chairs. We enjoyed the drinks the staff made for us and watched a sunset from the swim up bar one night. We had dinner twice at the hotel. Both times the food and the service were premium. The octopus appetizer is excellent! During dinner we had a 2-Toed Sloth make its way by even.

Rooms are spacious with amazing views, the location and nature all round is breathtaking - we saw sloths, capuchins, macaws and Titi monkeys right from our balcony and at the hotel itself! The sunsets at the pool were out of a picture postcard. Service is prompt and courteous throughout. We wish we could stay longer - we hope to return soon.

It was ridiculous that hotel is so stingy on towels. You cannot get more then one towel per person and if you ask for second one, they told me that hotel administration is absolutely strict and refuses to give you extra even one more towel. That hotel isn’t near cheap, but this kinda service is absolutely terrible.

It’s a very well located hotel, amazing views from the room. Infinity pool is beautiful. We had a corner room and would be nice to have a couch and comfortable chairs in the room. We would definitely return to La Mariposa .

Room view cannot be beat! Overall the room is lacking, no robes or slippers. Minimal towels (2 bath, 1 hand). Extremely old mini fridge. Mediocre bath items (2 in 1 combo shampoo/conditioner if not great quality). Pool towels are literally the exact same as the bath towels, small, white and no extras as you get 1 towel per towel card. Pool was cold, spa was basically a kiddie pool, but at least was lukewarm. Breakfast buffet options were decent. Bartenders were great! Especially dealing with the monkeys! Dinner food very good! You are coming here for the views, make sure you book a room that includes an ocean view!
