We stayed two nights here, and wished we had more! The resort is only 20 rooms, but all very nice accomodations. We stayed in the main hotel tower (three stories, stairs only). It was a very spacious room, the linens were first-class, with both feather and memory foam pillows to choose from. The room was clean, and the hot water plentiful. We stayed on the top floor, and enjoyed view of property. The grounds are just lovely, with flowers everywhere, and a nice boardwalk from place to place, to keep your feet clean when it rains. The restaurant is great - open on three sides for ventilation, and great views as it sits partially on the lake itself. There are steps and a shallow swimming area in the lake, right next to the pool. The pool was crystal clear, and has a connected hot tub. The staff will deliver drinks and food right to your poolside table, if you like. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The resort manager was also very nice, and went out of his way to make sure that we had everything we needed. There are also little cabins available that we were able to tour. They each have a private screened-in patio, and spa bathrooms. Definitely will ask for one of those rooms next time we come. This was an amazing find - truly first-class. LOVED it. If you are reading this review, stop looking and just book this resort. You will enjoy it!
It has a nice pool and restaurant. Both overlook Lake Izabal.
Staff was extremely friendly and courteous.
There's not much to do or see at Mariscos. It is a very small town. You have to plan to stay at the hotel.
Although it was Thanksgiving weekend, there were very few guest at the hotel. The good part, we enjoyed the facilities for ourselves. But choices of what to eat were limited to what was available at the hotel.

Liked: Cleanliness, room comfort
Disliked: Staff & service
Location is great. Check in was smooth. When we went for dinner at 8 pm the reception was closed and we had to go to the gate security to be shown the restaurant. The wine list was unclear in its pricing and what we thought was a $30 wine was $80. A Chilean Canepa no way costs $80. The waitress asked if we wanted a regular bottle or a smaller, 250 ml bottle. Turns out that $30 was for the smaller bottle! The menu didn't mention volume. We assumed that like elsewhere on the planet the price was for a regular bottle. It was also a bit unnerving that as we sat down for dinner there were what sounded like half a dozen gun shots somewhere close by. We were happy to leave next morning.
Overall, the property is very well kept and very modern. The scenery directly on the lake is very beautiful, but we did not appreciate the fact that they keep you behind locked gates and a wall (presumably because they mainly cater to rich Guatemalans who - think they - need "protection" from the poor population outside the hotel...).
The food at the restaurant however was excellent, the service very friendly but clearly not very skilled (for the level of luxury they want to offer at the hotel).
There is nothing to do nearby and all activities offered by the hotel are outrageously expensive. This was our last stop in Guatemala, so we had a pretty good feeling for level of prices for services offered and anything we were quoted here was just ridiculous. They also seem to control the services offered by others in the little village, as we tried to organize a boat trip by ourselves with one of the locals and he told us he could not offer a different price than what the hotel had quoted us.
On top of everything, upon check out they would have overcharged us if I hadn't thoroughly checked the bill.
All in all, it was a positive stay, but I don't think we would choose to go there again. It was way too artificial for our taste and compared to anything else we experienced in Guatemala.
The suite quality is great but the actual complete hotel experience is not as great, making it expensive. The hotel has a small pool, the lake is dirty, there was absolutely no cable TV, took too long to check out, etc.
The room amenities are L'occitane. The suites have jacuzzi in the bathroom. The bathroom was spacious. The room well appointed. It is a small hotel but secure, well taken care of. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable of Lake Izabal and Rio Dulce. It was a very pleasant surprise
Amazing facility very safe and secure. The Pillows, sheets and bath towels were all soft and clean. The food was delicious my friends and I were the only ones in the hotel and we felt like they still provided all services needed and went over and beyond our expectations. The boat ride to Rio Dulce is a must.
The hotel is well designed and beautiful, the pool is very nice. I loved the details in the room and the minibar, the mattresses were excellent. They need more hooks for hanging towels though. What we didn't like is that they don't have a late room check out and the restaurant prices are a little bit high for what is served. The service was poor, it took soooo long for someone bringing the menus let's not say about bringing the food. We had excursion in the lake and when we returned they were reluctant to giving us towels for drying up after rinsing in the showers because weren't staying that night, at last they gave us the towels but not one for each, we had to share.
The hotel is very nice though, and I'll probably come back.
We arrived on April 13 to stay for 2 nights. The hotel had no guests at all. We were the only family.
We were hungry after a drive of 6 hours from Antigua. We are vegaterian/fishatarian. They have 1 resturant on the facility. We ordered several dishes that were on the menu, but they did not have anything we asked. Very limited selection. My husband end up having chocolate for lunch/dinner and my daghter and I had a very basic salad. Service was so slow eventhough there was no one there.
No internet in the room.
Note that the are where the hotel is surrounded by very poor villages and homes. There is not much going on outside the hotel. So diriving to the next town dynamic town (Livingstone or Puerto Barrios) we were told would take another 3-4 hours. We checked out the next morning headed back to Guetamala City.
Awesome facilities, great views, helpful and friendly staff, great food and service. Highly recommended stopover for the long drive to Tekal from Guatemala City!!
Dommage !!!
