The check in staff was incompetent and rude. Frontdesk receptionist charged my credit card $100 for “incidentals” when in fact the charge is a $100 DEPOSIT. She never said any of this; I discovered the charge while at dinner tonight. Additionally, when I called the front desk to ask about this, I was told that she was prepared to call me anyway because I did not pay for the room —in short, this was the worst stay, the most incompetent staff I’ve ever encountered in nearly a half century of travel around the world. On top of everything else, I had to press the manager and front desk staff to admit aloud that all questions and confusion was caused on their end by whatever disparities in communication between Expedia and this truly horrible hotel. The manager admitted this, and yet no apology whatsoever. I’ve never written a public bad review of any service. But Yelp or other forum will know about this Marriott Providence Downtown (a misnomer, by the way; downtown is a dangerous mile or so away) as the last place you’d want to lay your head. It would be much better to sleep in your car or out in the elements on the street than this dirty, wretched place. The room has a chair that has been sliced open with feathers coming out of it. It smells bad and for $332 a night (no mention that parking is $32 per night to place your car in an empty, dangerous open parking), this place should be condemned.
