The hotel is not accessible by car. The front of the hotel is blocked for automobiles. But it’s not a bad walk, with luggages, it’s a challenge if you have more than 2 rolling luggages. Other than that it was an awesome stay. The free wine was good.

The A.S. 1829 is one of the nicest hotels we’ve ever stayed in. They did a wonderful drop working with the pen and stationary downstairs (open since 1829) to retain the aesthetics and character of the building. The room was elegant and spacious. The staff were wonderful. A 5 star stay for sure. The only criticism, and this is a tiny thing, is that the light switches are comically complicated. Very unclear which buttons control which lights and many don’t control any light at all. But all around this just made for some great comedy.

Our stay at this hotel was great. The staff was friendly and helpful. They went above and beyond when we arrived drenched from a torrential downpour. The glass of port and the welcome pastry were delicious. The room was confortable and the windows opened up on the courtyard…we even got to enjoy some live music from our room. Thank you for a lovely stay.

This was a great location and a very nice hotel. We liked the walkable street with all the sidewalk cafes and live music outside our balcony. Very easy distance to walk down to the Ribeira area on the waterfront.

The location of this hotel is amazing! The street is filled with restaurants, shops, street artists and musical entertainment. There are no cars allowed, so you will need to be dropped off around the corner, but totally worth it. Room was quite large by European standards and the bed was comfortable. Staff was good, property was clean. We loved it.
