Nice beach view

Very nice hotel right on the beach. The location is great and amenities like the spa, pool and casino are nice. I couldn’t give it 5 stars because the rooms could use some updates. We had 3 rooms, all were nice with a balcony and ocean view but one room was having problems with ants. Also there are no USB ports in the room for charging phones. Even budget hotels in the US have multiple USB ports either built into the outlets or built in to the beside lamps.

This is not a 5 star hotel, it is a 1 to 3 start hotel, Ac was not working, 4 times we asked the to fix the issue and at 11 pm they were still working on it and we couldn’t go to our room to go sleet, after 2 days we asked for fan to use in the room, so we have some air circulating. The WiFi would not work in the room. Some staff were nice, but some were not. So disappointed with this hotel.

Overall, we had a nice time but mainly because of the beach and the area. We arrived an hour early and asked if our room was ready, to which the lady sarcastically replied “No! We are fully booked so we’ll call you when your room is ready at 3:00”. So we headed to the beach and waited for the call - nobody ever called us. We returned around 6:30 and found our room had been ready for awhile but nobody bothered to call. The staff seem overwhelmed, disorganized and unhappy. When we asked for a later checkout, we were told no, again they were fully booked. When I said it was so we could pack our belongings since we arrived from a morning kayak tour, he said fine, but just to grab our luggage. When we came to the buffet breakfast right when they opened to ask if we could take food to go since we had an early morning kayak tour, we were told no so we inhaled our breakfast in 5 min. The building seams rooms seem quite dated and due for an upgrade. The bottom of the pool floor was lifting and bubbling up. The rooms were dated and the bathroom had a half-glass wall by the shower that still didn’t block the water from spraying over the floor. There was also a faucet under the sink, not sure what that’s about. The gentleman who helped us with our luggage and parking upon arrival was the exception, so lovely and we were grateful to him. This place has potential if they invest in upgrades and customer service training for staff. Location was great, close to many restaurants and shops.

The entire property seemed to be old and worn. Not a good vacation vibe. One tower had two elevators but only one in service for days. Balcony beach view room was ancient. Getting to it was a maze. No elevator from ground floor to the floor the room was on. You had to go Down stairs. Then a long walk then down more stairs. Getting to the room was a serious annoyance. From the beach pool area you had to walk up a circular staircase. Then across a long out of date abandoned corridor. Then down the stairs back to the floor you started on and another long corridor. The room was clean. I can’t really say anything else good about it. The included breakfast was not worth the time or effort or crowds. Tired boring substandard food and coffee. Poorly organized buffet. Not worth eating it. The staff looked tired and miserable. The beach was nice but a little further down there were much more beautiful unique beaches with outcroppings and tunnels and caves. Also a bit further west there was a lot of food fun and better by far hotels. I would Never go back to the Argarve casino hotel. You can rent beach chairs from any of the hotels even if you are not a guest. You could really enjoy the most stunning beaches on this strip by brining your own blanket and umbrella. Then you can pick a spot that is visually unique to put your stuff down. Bottom line stay west of the Argarve Hotel Casino. We still enjoyed Portimao. It’s a fun nice beach town.

The property is very old & has a moldy smell — which triggered my allergies. The room I had booked was not available so I was also disappointed with the room I was given that had a view of a bunch of tents on the beach.
