The staff here make this otherwise average property shine. Going out of their way to be helpful. Positives are being right across the hot springs pool, quiet, single level, well kept surroundings, instant good quality hot and cold water in the bathroom and responsive staff. Negatives include that its old, walls are peeling off, carpets are old, AC was too loud, TV didn't work, no in room coffee, outlets are not easily accessible to charge phones, bathrooms are small and parking is limited/tight. The parking lines need to be re-drawn to reduce dead space.

We got a message from the desk attendant at about 9 pm saying they would pre-register us. When we arrived at 10:30 pm the office was closed and we couldn’t get our room key. Apparently the office closed at 10:00 pm. We were not notified ahead of time that we needed to check in prior to 10 pm. There was a night bell to ring, but no one responded. We called the phone number from the earlier message and got no response. We continued trying to get a response until 11:00 and finally left. A few minutes after we left, the desk attendant returned our call and met us in the office to get us the key. We were then told we were lucky they didn’t give our room to someone else. Very poor communication!

We stayed twice - first room was amazingly in need of a re-do with extreme cracks in walls and tub that didn’t drain well. Hands down the nastiest hotel room I’ve stayed in. We had to call the phone number because the front desk didn’t open at 8:00 a.m. We thought, okay… this is dog friendly in Idaho. Second time in different room - the television didn’t work and the shower didn’t work. At 9 a.m. the front office still wasn’t open so we left the key in the box and left. Won’t do it again and will stay elsewhere and suggest to others to do the same as we are traveling through.

A lot of people seem to like how close this property is to everything, but Lava really is not that big to begin with, so it really isn't a unique perk. The hotel is super rundown and in serious need of renovations. The walls were peeling/warped/water-damaged. The carpet was so old and dirty (my socks got dirty from walking around). There was visible water damage throughout the bathroom. There's hardly any parking. Our boxspring had a really obnoxious plastic wrap on it that 1) gave criminal tv show vibes 2) was really loud to sleep on. The beds were fine, not overly comfortable or uncomfortable. It was really expensive for what you get here (like 0 ammentities), and I wouldn't stay here again.

Good location. You know what you are getting when you drive up. The bed is comfortable. The room is very close to the Lava Hot Springs. 2 minute walk.
