We ended up needing an extra night as we had to arrive a day early from Christchurch due to incoming weather. The motel was able to accommodate this need which was much appreciated, however we were charged about 3 times our original booking price for the same room. If the room had been nicer, cleaner, or updated, it may have helped. It is an older property and the cleaning was lacking. We considered checking out and moving to a nearby Airbnb for the same price but knew we would not likely get our money back. There was a dank smell to the room and mold around the shower area. The shower was small and the floor of it is made of a very slick metal. There is a tiny shelf big enough for soap only. The towels and washcloths appeared clean but had a slight odor to them. The carpeting is old and dirty. There aren’t many plugs in the room. The tv only has a select few channels. Radiator heat only. There was a large area power outage which couldn’t be helped but during that time we were not asked if we needed anything or advised of options. The only reason we decided to stick it out was our budget. After being overcharged for the additional night we felt stuck. When we learned that our Ferry had been delayed, I asked about late check out but that was a no. They did allow us to store our luggage but the room wasn’t locked so we returned for it sooner than later. Bottom line, if I had it to do over again I would not choose this property. Especially after reading recent bedbug reviews!
