Our stay was amazing. The kids loved exploring the property and playing with the donkeys and puppy. Very memorable. Many thanks to Mark for being an excellent host.

Wow this place was amazing ! Easy to communicate with property owner. The property is gorgeous and has so much history. The cottage was larger than anticipated and laid out nicely. I travelled with my husband, 2 kids, mom and grandma. We all hung out comfortably and relaxed. Very homey and would recommend if looking for some down time and good location place to stay. Lovely place.

The positive was Mark was super friendly, very warm, very accommodating and came up with work-arounds for our issues. The property is lovely and there are views of the river from every window. The negatives were that the pictures weren’t entirely accurate. When we travel it’s essential that we can do laundry. This stop was one of several on our trip and we pack light anticipating we’ll be able to wash our clothes along the way. The washer/dryer in the kitchen was replaced by a mini refrigerator and the space in the kitchen that had housed a full sized refrigerator was empty. Mark offered to let us use his washer/dryer in the main house, but when we went up to do that, there was no power to it, so we abandoned that plan rather than get him involved again. We already felt like we were requiring too much of his time (he was soooo nice about ALL of it) after needing him to come up to light the oven and then having to figure out a way for us to have access to a freezer (no freezer section in the mini frig). The cottage was warm, the WiFi was good, water pressure in the shower was good. I would recommend putting out a new sponge (in a package) at the kitchen sink when guests come. There’s no dishwasher, so hand washing dishes with an old sponge isn’t the best. We had a little bit of an ant problem in the living room. It was do-able for two nights, but not quite what we were expecting. Mark’s attitude was much appreciated & he was happy to cater to us when we communicated with him.

We’ve stayed at many rentals while vacationing, but this one will likely go down as the worst one. While the owner seemed like a lovely man, we felt catfished by his listing. His pictures vastly misrepresented the actually condition of the property. We expected a rustic, but cozy cottage. However we also expected a clean, well functioning, and safe place to stay for a few nights. The property has character, but it also needs a lot of work. I recommend a thorough cleaning to start with. The floors and rugs are very dirty. We dared not walk around barefoot during our entire stay. Other highlights: There’s visible mold in a lot of areas, and the entire place is very damp and smells very musty. The plumbing needs repair…every time we flushed one of the toilets, water leaked from the tub or shot out of its drain. There are holes in walls, stains on the ceiling, ripped curtains. You have to walk through tall brush, a junkyard, and an electric fence (that owner said was not on…sure) to get near paddle boards and a boat. Needless to say, we passed on that. The worst of our experiences was that we could hear loud scratching and some types of critters running around in the ceiling above our bed all night long. Sorry, but we absolutely would not recommend this property.
