Review: Extended Stay America – Whippany, NJ Overall, I was disappointed with my stay. While the towels were clean, many were stained. The non-smoking room had a strong smell of marijuana and cigarettes, and there was no shampoo provided—The front desk informed they ran out. Also just one small bar of soap. The vanity had noticeable burn marks, and the carpet was heavily stained. On a positive note, the staff was very kind and welcoming, and the beds were comfortable. However, this property would greatly benefit from a major renovation and the enforcement of a strict no-smoking policy out of respect for all guests.

The paint was scuffed, and there were dents in cabinets and on parts of the walls. The floors had paint dripped on it and not scraped off. It just overall looked very previously lived in. I was traveling with my son who was visiting a college and their breakfast option was very poor, including nothing other than coffee, tea or hot cocoa. No juice, no water and everything was picked over.

The woman at check in was relatively polite but did have “fu*k off” tattooed on the side of her middle finger. Strong smell of smoke though a non smoking hotel. Can of raid left outside one room. The floor of our room was “sticky” so I am not sure what it was washed with. Breakfast at 8:45 had no hot water, and one package of oatmeal and 4 granola bars. Hardly a “grab and go” breakfast that was advertised. People running in the hall and banging on doors. Checkout was easy- just drop the key cards in the box. Thankfully my stay was just one night. Very disappointing for the price we paid. Overall, I’d take my chances with a different hotel.

Lack of usable wi-fi is a dealbreaker. Screens need to be replaced, multiple dead bees in room, as well as cockroaches. Smoky smell in the suite suggests bad ventilation and people smoking in other ares of the building. Common areas, especially hallways and stairwell, smelled rancid. On landing path for adjacent airport, so small planes fly over at low altitude. Kitchens poorly stocked with needed items. We were so eager to leave this place.

This should be a last resort. I don't recommend.

We needed a place for the night since our hot water heater broke. We requested a non-smoking room. The room we were in had cigarette burns on the counter tops and smelled like smoke. And the trash had not been emptied from the people who stayed there before us. The carpets (in the hall and in the room) were dirty and in need of vacuuming. The check-in staff was friendly, but there are other options for places to stay.
