We thought this place was a good value because it is big and has plenty of places to sleep. The kitchen is big. It has plenty of seating in the living room plus TVs in every room. The property is very old. Some cabinets are missing. All the furniture and beds seem to be at least 20 years old. But that didn't really bother us. The biggest issue with this property is the decorations. They are atrocious. For example, there is a decoration about a woman needing money for her rehab right next to a candle with a picture of Jesus on it in the kitchen. We also found a crucifix on the wall. There are odd toys hanging off of all of the beams of the house. This place seems to suggest that it's good for kids, but there is a poster on the wall called Virgin Snow showing what can only be assumed as an underaged girl with her skis up in the air in a very sexualized position. The bed I slept on had a child's rocking chair next to it that served no other purpose other than to trip me when I got up. Also, we found the mattress in the master bedroom to be so uncomfortable that we couldn't sleep on it. It was hard, it springs seem to transfer motion like an ocean. It wiggled. It made noise. It was just unsleepable. Luckily there are other options in the house. Again, we thought this place was a good value. But the decorations made us uncomfortable, especially those that were religiously themed. And the master bed has to be replaced. Replaced. It's just unacceptable. Other than that, we do recomm

The location was great for the things we wanted to see and do.

Except for things not being as clean as we would have liked and there not being much of basic cooking helps like, salt and pepper it was fine.

Perfect place to lay low. There are 5 beds upstairs so this place would be excellent if you have a ton of kids.

Good but hot

Nice place with good amenities - laundry, kitchen. Upstairs was broiling hot even after running the small AC unit for several hours. This was late June, I cant imagine later in the season.

Fun ... hope you like the KISS band, and others. :)

Fun, very eclectic décor (bigtime 70's Classic Rock Band kitsch). Quiet sleepy neighborhood, which is nice. It's a place to sleep and has the basic amenities. A bit spendy for what it is, but I guess everything there is. Owners seem like fun and nice people.

FUN/Memorable weekend in the Rock and Roll Cabin

Although I had seen some negative feedback - We were very satisfied with our experience. This is not the Grand Hilton but it was a mountain cabin, close to town and able to accommodate our large group. The yard is LRG and had room for our RV. the teens played Frisby in the front yard, we had a big fire in the firepit at night and there were lots of beds for sleeping. We will definitely use rent this again in the future. If you are looking for the Hilton this is not your kind of place - but the price was great and owners were super easy to work with.

mouse droppings, grime, cobwebs, stains, dust

Do yourself a favor and pick a different place. Heed all other reviews. I didn't read the reviews before I hastily booked due to last minute accomodation needs. While ithe rental has potential, this place shouldn't even be allowed on VRBO in its current condition. The owner completely denies the unhealthy and unclean conditions despite our correspondence (and all other reviews).

basic and not clean

the place was basic and chintzy as shown in the photos. It was not clean, the fridge was foul in the lower bins and the garbage was left over from the cleaning process. there was clean laundry. It was left in the dryer. Fortunately this was just a place for 4 guys to crash on the way to a trailhead. I would never try to cook here or stay here for anything more than an overnight

Weird and filthy

The cleanliness of the place was appalling, with blood-stained, unwashed sheets and towels that were clearly neglected. The white pillows were discolored with yellow stains, and the entire place emitted an unbearable odor. However, the most disturbing aspect was the presence of explicit sexual decorations that were completely inappropriate for children. I strongly advise against staying here if you value cleanliness, comfort, and a family-friendly environment.

No your typical VRBO

When we arrived it smelled musty, was 90⁰. Upstairs bedroom unbearable. We attempted to sleep on the sofas. Messaged host, no response. We left at 6am the next morning instead of finishing our stay. Texted to say we we leaving early and and again no response. Tiny 8 inch frying pan only in the kitchen, making eggs for 4 a bit difficult. Portable air conditioner was useless. We opened windows and put a fan by them. NOT really an air conditioned rental. Strange decor to boot.

Good Bones

Truthfully... It's time for NEW towels, pillows and beds. The cobb webbs on the rafters and some walls were just a small sign of a need for better cleaning. If someone has allergies....the dust is going to make your guests miserable. Ok! Bitter pill over. The cabin has great potential for a quality stay. It has great bones for a small family or two couples. The lawn space is large enough to keep the neighbors from your windows....nice! It's also in a quiet location close to town. The living room furniture is in quality condition and comfortable. The kitchen is well designed and easy to use. We spend most of our time outdoors seeing the sites. Thank you for your hospitality. 4/10 Poor

Not as advertised

I didn't want to write a negative review but the owner gave me no choice. I addressed all of the below issues in an email to her after our stay but received zero response...not even an apology. Renting this cabin was a spur of the moment decision for us and was only one available for the weekend that allowed pets so we reserved it, after the owner confirmed to us that it had air conditioning. The days we were there it was very hot and we have four small children and two dogs. The day before we left, however, the owner informed us that she incorrectly thought the cabin had a/c but it didn't. We were upset but didn't want to cancel and disappoint the kids so we agreed to take it. We also really appreciated the owners honesty and gave her the benefit of the doubt. She had provided a bottle of her homemade wine in the fridge for us which we thought was a very nice gesture, even though we aren't big wine drinkers. *There was a large, melon sized hornet nest on the front porch. We were forced to use the side door during most of our stay to avoid being stung. There isn't any wi-fi/phone line at the cabin so we couldn't notify the owner. We used bug spray several times before the bees deserted it. *The master bedroom had a huge adult-themed poster with cartoon pictures above the bed and on the night stand were Ken and Barbie on top of each other. I have four small children who easily could have walked in and seen that; very inappropriate for a family cabin. *The ad advertised a working hot tub but it was broken and not even connected. We were very disappointed. *The bathtub was dirty with black hairs and dust balls and the bath mats looked like they hadn't seen a washer in quite a while. The floors were quite dirty, also, forcing us to clean as soon as we got there. Not what you want to do on your vacation. *The house was infested with ants, requiring us to store all of our dry goods in the small fridge. *Due to the heat, the upstairs room was unusable for the majority of our time. We have stayed in Packwood before at a different cabin with none of these issues. Again, I notified the owner of this and gave her four days respond because I didn't want to write a negative review but she didn't. She was very prompt with our security deposit refund, though, which we greatly appreciated. This cabin could be a cute getaway if the above were remedied.

This is a rustic but well appointed cabin. Full kitchen and grill to bring your own food and recharge for hiking. Location is very good and close to the Steven Canyon access point for Mt. Rainier and also a good place to launch for other hiking in the area. The property can sleep 10+. The fire pit is nice to sit outside and enjoy the area when the sun goes down. The price is a little on the steep side, but given the amenities it is solid. You are also close to Packwood to get supplies or hit a couple of restaurants in town. All in all, we had a very nice stay. Some things don't work perfectly, but overall the place has a lot of character.
