Good

I don't like to give poor reviews unless absolutely necessary - it's hard for small businesses / hospitality right now - but potential customers do need to be warned over The Bruce.
We had Room 5 - the family room, it was really poor - dirty, in disrepair (I don't mind old if it's clean!) and the bed was the worst I've ever seen - the mattress was so stained, and it was so uncomfortable it was awful (the two singles were not as bed) - the bathroom was derelict - we booked for two nights but could only manage one and didn't stay for the breakfast (which Expedia stated was free but on arrival that wasn't the case - reception baling Expedia for this).
The staff were OK - when I left I mentioned the room and the chap on reception apologies and agreed it's bad - he said "we tell the owner all the time but he doesn't care".
We feel totally cheated - maybe the other rooms are better, but find somewhere else to stay in my view.
Excellent, convenient location to stay during the Wigtown book festival. Particular highlight being the friendly, informative staff. We were delighted to experience the delicious Scottish breakfast each morning, ingredients sourced from local farms.

Disliked: Amenities
strange place to stay, no evening meal available as no chef. The notice looked old, so how long without evening meals? Seemed to have very long stay residents????
Decent hotel a little old, very quiet and clean, wifi good, good breakfast. Plenty bars restraunts close by, entrance to car park tight parking out front on main road but parking spaces go quick, definitely would stay again.
Very run down and tired. Everything in the room was past its best or broken. Bed was dreadful, very thin old sprung mattress, felt every lump! No bar, no restaurant, no beer garden. Breakfast was the only plus point.
No bar 6months..no resteraunt 3 yrs..( not stated in booking page) 1st room window didnt close.. Moved to another room where radiator only worked 1st and 3rd. Third.. 2nd third stone cold...
