Creetown is a former fishing village on the River Cree estuary that was founded in the 18th century known as the Ferrytown of Cree it formed one end of a ferry route that took pilgrims across the estuary to Wigtown on their way to the shrine of St Ninian at Whithorn. Creetown is home to the award-winning Gem Rock Museum with its collection of gemstones, crystals and minerals.
