This was a great place to get a way and relax with our adult children.
My family and I (8 adults) spent a delightful week together at the Tygart River Guest House. The house is well-equipped and pleasant, and oh my, what a great location! We loved spending lots of time together on the spacious front porch, enjoying the river sights and sounds and beautiful scenery around us. The neighbor dogs who visited us on the porch were a welcome bonus. One night we had some relatives join us for dinner, and 22 of us were quite comfortable and happy. Nice kitchen and baths really made a difference in accommodating so many people. We would definitely like to return! We would suggest that future guests may not want to rely on directions from Google Maps - that road is narrow, unpaved and rough. There is much better (paved) access to the house via Rt. 119 and Arden Rd.
A fine place for friends and family to gather. You have the River just outside of the house, and public access to the lake, about ten miles away. There is something for everyone to do, if they enjoy Nature.
The guesthouse was beautiful and very clean. The upstairs area of the home did not have air conditioning which made it very difficult for the guests that slept upstairs. In the living room area close to the bathroom their is a decent size area on the ceiling where their is a water leak. Two chairs that were at the bar in the kitchen were broken and not safe to sit in. On the mailbox at the front of the property and on an eave of the house in the back their was hornets nests. Our dog was bitten several times by hornets. The property owner did take care of the hornets when she was made aware of what happened. The house sits very close to an extremely busy road. From what we could gather their is a big rock in the river just below the house that has become a place for teenagers to gather. So traffic was almost constant. On July 4th their was so many college kids below the house partying that the police came. I think we counted over 12 police cars that came and went trying to control the crowds. None of this we were made aware of when we booked the home. Across the road from the guesthouse is a breathtaking view of the Tygart River. It is perfect for fishing. We swam some but the current is dangerous. You have to stay close to the bank of the river. Overall I am glad that I went. Owners do need to make potential guests aware of the traffic that flows constantly before they decide to book.
