Yöveden Ateljeekoti is an atmospheric accommodation in a historic former village school, which was completed in 1893.
The house has five bedrooms and, in addition, two gardens for winter living in the courtyard. Guests have access to a well-equipped kitchen, a spacious dining room, a children's play area, a summer kitchen covered in the garden with barbecue and an atelier with Katja's art on display.
Yöveden Ateljeekoti is the personal atelier home of the visual artist Katja Antonoff, offering atmospheric accommodation in a historic former village school, which was completed in 1893. The building served as a village school for nearly a hundred years until 1992. Today, its unique milieu combines history, art and cozy accommodation in the tranquility of nature.
Guests have at their disposal five bedrooms and two sleeping cabins, a well-equipped kitchen, a spacious dining area, a children's play area with lots of books, games and toys for children of all ages, and a covered summer kitchen in the garden with a gas grill and a electric smoker. In addition, guests have access to a spacious foyer, two toilets and a shower room, as well as a washing machine.
Katja Antonoff's studio is also connected to the house, where her art is exhibited. If you wish, you can book a watercolor workshop directed by Katja and paint your own artwork to commemorate your visit. No previous painting experience is required.
A kilometre from Ateljeekodi is a 160-year-old beach sauna, where you can experience the gentle steam of the historic sauna and take a dip in the waves of Saimaa's Night Water. There is also a lake seal nesting nearby so it is possible that you will also get to see this delightfully curious bottlenose that occasionally visits our sauna beach.
You can also book a guided tour by Katja Antonoff, during which you will get to hear stories about the history of the house and the area, as well as explore the art and artefacts of the house and hear about the stories behind them. The tour includes a visit to the atmospheric Himalayan Island Chapel next door to Ateljeekodi.
We also rent a rowing boat as well as two kayaks, one single seater and the other two seater. Rantasauna is approximately 1.4 km away by water to the Astuvansalmi rock paintings, which are the largest prehistoric rock paintings in the Nordic countries. The paintings, which are around 8,000 years old, are one of the most significant sights of Saimaa and an unforgettable excursion destination.
Yövesi Ateljeekoti is the perfect destination for those who appreciate peace, history, art and authentic experiences amidst the nature of Saimaa.
The entire house is reserved for your use only for the duration of your stay.
The host population lives a mile from the target. We may carry out gardening work in the yard, such as lawn mowing if your accommodation lasts more than a week and watering plantings if necessary. However, we will always inform you before we arrive and agree on a suitable time with the guests. We give our guests their own peace, but we are available when needed. If you wish, you can book a guided tour or an art workshop from the hostess of the house. We also rent a beach sauna, two kayaks and a rowing boat.
