It was our first visit to Madrid so we wanted to stay right in the centre and The Principal is in a great location. As you enter there is a flight of stairs and the doorman takes your details then bundles you into a small lift to reception on the 6th floor. The reception is between the restaurant and the bar and both look lovely,

Good location. Service pretty poor for a boutique 5 star hotel. We were greeted with lots of free extras none of which were actually available to us. When ordering our complimentary cocktails we were told we had to go back to our rooms and present our check in form (quite a hassle as the lifts were slow) even though this was never mentioned. When we decided to leave instead no one was in the least bit bothered.

We had a brilliant time staying at The Principal Madrid. Throughout our stay, all hotel staff were friendly and helpful with all my requests. They were able to lend me an adapter when I forgotten mine. I requested two beds and a quiet room and this was fulfilled. The terrace was lovely and had a splendid view of the city. Although they provide a dental kit, their toothbrush is not nice to use - bring your own toothbrush. There are many shops around the area; some local cafes and restaurants. Very close (walking distance) to many landmarks. Their spa service is a spa room where there are just two massage beds. The service was excellent and you pay at check out. We will definitely revisit this hotel.
