We booked last minute and saw the place was available and the pictures looked pretty cute. We booked for 3 nights. The property manager was very responsive and seemed nice.
My family and I arrived separately, I showed up first and immediately I was concerned. First off the property is a free standing house on the corner of two very busy streets with a four way stop light. Second when I went to enter the property I was given a code for an old school lock box to get the key. This means any person who has ever had the code still has access to the keys & the unit.
When I walked inside the unit I knew things were even worse than I thought. While the pictures aren’t fake, pictures can be deceiving. It’s very obvious the contractor who remodeled the place did not know what they were doing. Every step you take on the floor is like stepping in sand it’s so unlevel. You can see the floor planks all coming apart and strips of glue everywhere.
I immediately messaged my wife to prepare her that the place isn’t the best so she wasn’t caught off guard. When she looked up the address on Google it became evident that this house had been condemned previously. It looked like it used to be a crack house.
When she arrived I had to park her car a half mile away because there was no parking anywhere. Then walking back in the dark is something that was very uncomfortable because the street is not well lit and there were several sketchy people I passed on the way.
Once inside after a laugh we went to bed. Unfortunately, we slept a grand total of maybe an hour. We jokingly called the evening our “Grand Theft Auto The Musical” evening. The place had the melodic sounds of motorcycles, street racing, and fights piped in on a loud speaker. I can sleep through most anything & I was shocked at how loud it was.
Additionally circling back to the condemned crack house, my wife and kids all woke up with rashes. We decided that the massive amounts of scented stuff they put up in the house was to cover what was probably a cat infestation. My wife said it had one of those odors like cats had peed and the scent soaked into the bones of the house.
We couldn’t stay there a minute longer and I messaged the property manager that we were leaving and we would appreciate a partial refund since we were going to have to pay for another place. Originally they said text they would give us a partial refund. But they kept stalling. Eventually they stopped responding.
