We made contact with Nicolette through VRBO in January 2023 about the possibility of renting her place for three months but before committing to that agreed weâd stay for a weekend to view (at the normal rental rates).
Whilst there for the weekend her daughter popped round to state that they would be in touch about prices (even though they were already on VRBO and instantly bookable).
When we got back from the weekend, we received an email from the daughter vastly inflating the prices with the suggestion that if we accepted them, they would confirm separately the payment method and cancellation policy - from this we assume that they were seeking payment outside of the VRBO platform.
On querying the hike in prices, the daughter blamed VRBO which is untrue.
In brief, we wasted a weekend and the cost of flights from the UK to Italy to view the property as well as paying to rent the property and car hire. We offered the daughter the opportunity to refund the accommodation costs given their misrepresentation / error to no avail.
Having dealt with this family my advice would be to avoid. They really donât seem to understand that advertising something for rent on the web at a price, and the increasing it massively when somebody has traveled a 1000 miles to view it is unprofessional.
In terms of the accommodation itâs adequate - although the shower doesnât drain (by the time youâve washed your hair the tray is overflowing), the bed frame is falling apart, the bed is very squeaky when you move, the towel hooks in the bathroom fall off the wall in useâŠin all it feels like it needs some TLC.
