Average stay. This has nothing to do with the building being old or historical; that part is actually charming. The real issue is maintenance: the place needs a fresh coat of paint, the carpets in the rooms are tired and should be replaced, and even the chairs in the bedrooms are worn and wobbly. Breakfast buffer was “ok” — the quality and the assortment not what you’d expect from a 5-star hotel. Overall, it fell short of the standard it claims to offer.

I wanted this to be special it wasn’t. I can get round the drinks being put on my tab in the bar. Cost me £33. I did not notice this until I looked at bill after. But what really gets me is the fact the booking system at hotels.com was confusing and I booked a week ahead. The staff said don’t worry we can sort this but tonight you need to book again. So I did and paid top wack for the room. Now after Friday- Saturday and Sunday trying to either get refund or change dates they just don’t or not even interested in helping. Not great for someone that spent £500 in a day in the hotel. Not what you expect from a 5* hotel to just rip you off the mistake and say well it’s tough. Will never stay again. I am writing 3-4 reviews a day against this hotel which is fair if they don’t sort this by Friday.

The hotel is very well located, close to many attractions and good restaurants. The service was exceptional from the moment we arrived; everyone was very friendly.
