Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
The room was not at all as how expected, creaky boards and mirrors not hung on the wall, just left there to trip over. The staff was very friendly so that’s a plus but the experience was not as expected
Check in could be slightly improved if someone was dedicated solely to the front desk. They seemed a bit rushed off their feet with the event on at the same time.
More lighting and grit in the car park would be good too. Because of the event on at the time, it was quite a full car park. Being on my own walking through the dark, slippy car park, I didn't feel the most comfortable. More lighting over signage would be helpful to guide around the car park too.
Booked a junior suite for my son and his girlfriend as a treat on Christmas Day as they were visiting from another city. They loved the room and the breakfast too! They sent me videos of both, and the room looked clean and fresh and the breakfast was Full English and eggs Benedict with cups of tea in cute teacups. You drive through a park to get to this hotel. If you are driving at night or low visibility, beware of the speed humps! The markings have worn away and they are brutal! Drive extra slowly.
We had a lovely stay at Winstanley House, the staff and food at breakfast and in Black Iron were great! We asked for a quiet room as we are light sleepers and were given one which made us feel welcome as did our check in.
Our room was very clean but there were a few marks on the wall and carpet including an iron mark, and the window frames had a few black marks from condensation which could have been wiped off. The mattress also had a dip in the middle and could do with replacing as we rolled into the middle several times!
Overall a great stay; the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable and the food, particularly at breakfast, was of high quality.
Nice room and a really comfy bed, we slept well. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Good location and it didn't feel like the middle of a big city like Leicester. Parking was easy.

Beautiful location, clean rooms and lovely breakfast. I would highly recommend it.
No heating on the room when we arrived.
Were told that by security as no one was there form hotel staff.
Were given a small heater and the room was like an ice box when we got in the room as no one had bothered to heat it. It was -1 outside.
No apology was given.
Took us hours to settle in and didn't sleep till 2am as a result but were told as housekeeping leaving we can't have a later checkout.
Terrible stay with not one apology from anyone.
Been many times before but this time they really disappointed.
The stay at the Winstanley hotel was the worse hotel experience we have ever had. We went to sleep then were woken up at midnight by hammering and banging. It was like being in a building site. I went to reception to be told they were carrying out work in the kitchen. I told them it had to stop. The receptionist went to the kitchen and came back swinging a hammer and told me there would be no more noise he had taken the hammer off them ! We could still hear things being moved about and people talking. We got no sleep. We left early in the morning before reception opened. I have e mailed and complained and asked for a full refund. The guest services manager has told me that guest services were not aware of the work being carried out and we will get a refund. Nothing yet !
The parkland area around the hotel was a nice walk along with the walled garden. The staff was friendly and answered questions patiently. The breakfast and dinner at the restaurant was lovely.
What a lovely place to stay, old country house with plenty of garden / woodland walks immediately outside. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. Great value for money.

Liked: Staff & service
very nice old manor house and rooms with high ceilings although rooms were a little dated and bed mattress was past its use by date. Also probably chose the wrong night to stay with a lively wedding going on but I suspect that will be a common experience staying here and probably the hotel is not a best bet for a quiet evening.
We looked at lots of hotels for a one night in Leicester. Most were either big chain or fairly basic city hotels. This is mainly a wedding venue but in a bit of a green oasis within Leicester. Quiet, good service, good food, plenty of space. A good find

Let down by poor service
Fairly basic room. Restaurant food good but service poor.
We stayed there for a wedding that took place at their venue, the room although “deluxe” felt more like a standard room. The sheets looked worn out and the shower room floor could be cleaner like the rest of it was.
It was good to have a coffee machine and tea supplies in the room.
I really loved the hotel and my room, however the bed was really uncomfortable. The mattress was really lumpy and sank in on both sides so I didn't have a great nights sleep, hence for the low score. On-site parking was also great and was one of the reasons I picked the hotel.
