This hotel is extremely clean. The room was spacious and beautiful. The breakfast was delicious! The staff was some of the nicest people I’ve come across. They always remembered our names and we never felt unsafe even in the slightest. Do you research on the area that was my mistake. Las Catalinas is very out of the way to most tourist places and excursions. The entire town completely shuts down at 9pm. Theres absolutely nothing to do after 9pm. Not bar no food. Nothing. You want to leave the town at 8? Good luck. I think a max number of nights in this town is 2-3. The pool was clean and beautiful even though it was small.

The property was a pleasant place with easy access to food and restaurants in the vicinity. The rooms were clean and well-maintained, and the internet connection was excellent, considering my cell phone’s 5G features were limited. I would appreciate it if the bars and restaurants could stay open past 8 pm, as everything closes early, especially being in a remote area. The front desk staff were amazing (shout out to Arturo and Aurelio)! They helped make our trip fabulous by helping us arrange dinner reservations and also helping us plan our fun activities and excursions. The onsite/in town restaurants provided many options and the food was very fresh and delicious. Staff at the restaurants were friendly, helpful and attentive. We loved the breakfast, great ceviche, tasty coconut shrimp and excellent coffee cheesecake. My Hubby loved the ice cream stand with fresh waffle cones. Check out the Patagonia store for yummy coffee drinks and empanadas to go. The onsite infinity pool was super chill and relaxing and provided us a great space to chat, meet folks, relax and enjoy great views of the ocean. The ocean/beach in front of the property was clean, semi private and easy to navigate as there were no rocks or obstructions in the sand. Great space for adults and kids. There’s a great hike next to the hotel. I would recommend sneakers or hikers because it’s rocky and there are changes in elevations. Lastly, bring mosquito repellant because those buggers are fierce.

Beautiful area, walkable “no car” community. All restaurants are within walking distance or they will come pick you up in a golf cart. The pool has a great view of the beach and sunset. Most importantly this is an area that is quiet and peaceful! Everything is closed and lights off by 9PM-10PM latest. Not a place to come if you want to party. The staff was super helpful with finding things to do and guiding us in everything with our last minute booking. Thank you Arturo & Aurelio for all your help!

This is a beautiful property with about six restaurants in it. We very much enjoyed our stay at Santarena. A few drawbacks were that since the hotel is kind of secluded, we did not have many options for shopping, and the restaurants were quite over priced.

This place was absolutely gorgeous. The Hotel Santarena was incredibly clean, the staff were incredibly friendly, and it came off as genuine and warm. It was my first time to Costa Rica and I would recommend the Santarena to anyone that wants to have an amazing experience. It was a quick drive from the airport in Liberia, and it was conveniently located in an area that was not far from other great places to experience like Tamarindo and the Diamante Eco Park. And if experiencing local life and food is on your list of desires, just 10 minutes away was Potrero with some incredible food with the kindest locals at Los Abuelos. I recommend the Red Snapper. But seriously, the Santarena was a great stay experience. It was all inclusive and we were so incredibly well taken care of.

It was fine. Very expensive for the value received. Felt like an outpost of an American resort. Lacked authenticity. Located in an empty ghost town. Felt like being on a cruise but on land. Also the food didn’t feel fresh. It was definitely frozen even though they denied it. Just felt kind of lame over all.

Nothing regarding our vip status was honored. Was to have had amenities so that a two week stay would be convenient then property said 2K to upgrade? Was supposed to have a private balcony but was shared with people sitting right outside our bed basically. Talking noisy. Food offered was minimal and very little options. Pool was ice cold and very very tiny enough for maybe 4 guests at a time. Safe did not work. No laundry services as promised. No breakfast as promised. No grocery or help for concierge services as promised. Checked out (paid full amount manager wouldn’t respond to a chat to fix). Had to move to another facility that offered what we were supposed to be getting with another 2400 price tag attatched. Really disappointed and felt catfished by hotel and Expedia for not stepping in to help.

Terrible experience. I stayed here with my son for about a week. Although it's next to the beach, the area is surrounded by construction, with almost no shops and poor transportation options. Staff were unprofessional and unhelpful—no activity brochures, no useful advice, and they only cared about charging you. The taxi from the hotel to the airport was quoted at $180, while Uber would cost around $70, but they chased away my Uber driver! One of the worst hotel stays I've ever had. Avoid this place and stay closer to Flagmin Beach instead.
