The Empress Hotel is convenient and easy to get in out of .I like the low-key vibe throughout, but I also appreciate the unexpected and nice details that confirm that I made the right choice in La Jolla. La Valencia is lovely but significantly more expensive. Also checking in and out and parking are a bigger deal.
