We stayed at The Fontaine in Kansas City for a quick staycation to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary on Valentine’s Day as part of our “20 awesome things” celebration.
First, the positives: the hotel’s interior design truly rivals many properties in the city. The suite itself was beautiful, well-appointed, and very comfortable. The rainfall shower was a standout feature and gave the stay a luxury feel. The surrounding area also offers plenty to do, which made it a great location for a romantic getaway.
However, the service did not match the luxury presentation — especially given the holiday and milestone occasion.
One of the main reasons I selected this hotel was because robes were advertised. I actually searched specifically for hotels that offered robes and chose this property for that reason. Unfortunately, we never received robes during our stay.
Our reservation included a complimentary drink, but I had to ask twice before finally receiving it the following morning. I also inquired about upgrading to a champagne package, and there seemed to be confusion because I booked through Expedia, which required staff to “research” how to proceed.
On checkout morning, I requested a late checkout and was unable to secure one. At one point, I called the front desk and the call was disconnected before assistance was provided.
